Lamar Odom Discusses How Relationship With Drugs Ruined Marriage To Khloe Kardashian

Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian were once one of the most popular celebrity couples, but they've long since split and moved on with their lives. Odom, a former NBA star, recently opened up about their almost 7-year marriage and how his drug dependency ruined their relationship.

Odom spoke extensively about how supportive Khloe was during his struggle with drugs and shared that he put her through a lot. He also expressed regret for cheating on his former wife and said that it haunts him every day because with how they met and married, Khloe is someone that will never leave his heart.

The former couple started dating and got married in 2009 after knowing each other for less than 30 days. However, by 2013, Khloe had filed for divorce, which was eventually put on hold after Odom overdosed and became comatose in 2015. The divorce was eventually finalized in 2016, and they've both since moved on.

In the recently released trailer for Odom's documentary titled "Lamar Odom: Sex, Drugs & Kardashians," which premieres on January 2nd on Fox News, Odom opened up about his drug use and addiction during his marriage to Khloe. He also spoke about how the addiction ruined their relationship.

He told host Harvey Levin, per E! News, "Drugs was my girlfriend. I had a wife… and cocaine." When asked whether Khloe was aware of his drug use during their relationship, Odom admitted that he was eventually forced to come clean. He said, "For part of our marriage. I had to tell her. We can't hide that forever."

Drugs were just one of several problems that ruined Khloe and Odom's marriage. There was also the incessant cheating, which the reality star uncovered several times. Some of these cheating incidents were also covered extensively by the press, which made fans criticize Khloe for sticking by him repeatedly.

Odom also spoke about how supportive Khloe was during the darkest days of his drug addiction, even after they'd ended their relationship. He became emotional and put his hands in his head as he said, "I mean, behind the scenes I put her through some s**t. The things that y'all think y'all know are crazy. But the stories that y'all don't know is really crazy."

During a 2019 interview on BuzzFeed's Facebook Watch show, the former NBA star also expressed his regret for cheating on Khloe severally, saying they were mistakes that haunt him "every day." He said, "You marry someone after 30 days, they never leave your heart."

Odom and Khloe started dating officially in September 2009 and married later that same month. They quickly became a trending celebrity couple, with Odom's rising NBA fame and the increasing popularity of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

However, by December 2013, Khloe had filed for divorce, a few months after Odom checked himself out of drug rehab after staying for only a day. The divorce proceedings were put on hold after the basketballer became comatose due to a drug overdose in October 2015.

From 2015 until they finalized their divorce in December 2016, Khloe remained by Odom's side and helped to nurse him back to health. She was criticized extensively for the decision on social media, especially by fans who wanted her to abandon Odom for all he'd put her through.

Odom also spoke in detail about how Khloe supported him during his recovery from the overdose-induced coma. He revealed that the "The Kardashians" star visited him regularly and even called Khloe his "angel" and said that "she's a trooper."

Odom said per The Mirror, "When I woke up out of the coma, my memory was terrible and I couldn't walk or talk, and just her spirit, always being there, her bringing pictures of my mother, my grandmother, just to help me bring my memory back."

Khloe eventually moved on from Odom with another basketball player, Tristan Thompson, with whom she now has two children, a four-year-old True and a five-month-old son. She and Thompson ended their relationship after news leaked that he'd fathered another child with a different woman.
