Kody Brown Says A Small Gift From Meri Almost Made The Difference
As they finally call it quits on their marriage in a new episode of the poly family reality TV series "Sister Wives: One-on-One," Kody, the patriarch of the "Sister Wives," recalled the moment he almost made up with Meri.
Kody claimed that Meri's incredibly kind gesture prompted him to reconsider reconciling with her.
"When we moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, I was trying to reconcile with Meri," he claimed during Part 1 of their "One-on-One" special.
"Meri gave me this really cool present, and I'm in this place, telling Janelle, Christine, and Robyn that I might reconcile with Meri," the patriarch further added.
The TLC star revealed that the gift was a batch of homemade Rice Krispies Treats she gave him in honor of their 30th wedding anniversary.
"She put a bag full of them. One for every year of our marriage. She included even our bad years," he shared per Us Weekly. "The expression was sweet, and the mood that I was in was the right mood to try and think about reconciliation. It wasn't what it was."
He confessed, "I was no longer angry with her for what I had gone through in my life with her. I was willing to see the error of my ways and then work to determine whether we were good with each other anymore."
Meri Brown Tried To Rekindle The Flame In Her Dying Marriage
Making her remarks on what the gift meant to her ex-husband, Meri said she didn't know the gift left an impression on Kody.
"That's interesting that he felt like that. Because that is also the same day that we went out on a picnic and he was saying, 'No, you're supposed to have been courting me," she recounted. "I said, 'Kody, I've been waiting for you,' and he's like, 'I'm not coming.'"
She then revealed that she tried to reconnect with her estranged spouse during their 2020 anniversary.
"After I turned off my camera, I put my arms around him. Up around his neck and I said, 'What would you do if I just kissed you right now?" Meri narrated to the TLC "tell-all" host Sukanya Krishnan per Us Weekly.
"He was physically straight like a board. And he was backing up. He's like, 'I can't do that.'"
She further added, "It makes me feel good that he was considering it, but it didn't last through the evening, I guess."
Christine Brown Allegedly Didn't Support The Idea Of Kody Mending Things With Meri
Kody disclosed that after speaking with Christine about the idea of working things out with Meri, she took it personally, even going as far as lashing out at him.
He's in the past accused Christine, whom he split with in 2021, of being a "game player" during their marriage and throwing "temper tantrums."
"Initially, my issue was, I thought Christine was playing a game," Kody, 53, said, adding that he was uncertain. "From the time we were married, there was manipulation. Pouting. Temper tantrums. Just behavior things."
About divulging plans of reconciling with Meri to Christine, he stated that she "lost her shit," adding that she lashed out at him at a group function.
"She comes to a family party [that day] and leaves yelling to one of the kids that she was in a loveless marriage," Kody revealed per Us Weekly. He claimed that Christine was furious with him because he was "trying to reconcile with Meri" and that Meri and Christine's relationship was problematic.
Christine reacted to the accusations by asserting that Kody was comparing his four relationships, which only served to exacerbate the tension.
Kody No Longer Considered Himself Married To Meri
As the conversation went on, Meri explained that Kody didn't directly communicate his divorce plans with her. She revealed that she understood the message after hearing him say that he no longer "considered" himself married to her on their 17th season.
"This last anniversary, he's like, 'I don't even know why you called me, Meri.' He's like, 'We're not married. We're not acting as married,'" the reality star claimed. "And I said to him then, 'If that's where we are, don't you think we should address that publicly?'"
She accused Kody of not addressing it directly, claiming he told her that if they went public, more "judgment" would be passed on their plural family.
When asked about the state of things, she said via Us Weekly, "He's already made the decision" that they've split, noting that she would think about reconciliation but isn't sure Kody is interested.
