During a question and answer session on her Instagram Story on Friday, Paltrow let fans in on an intimate detail about her personal life, revealing that she is still "pretty much" friends with all of her past lovers.

The 50-year-old also gave a compelling explanation for why she decided to maintain communication with her exes, saying there was no need to destroy completely what had previously been a positive relationship.

"Pretty much. I really believe in conscious uncoupling," she revealed, per Yahoo. "When you spend meaningful time with someone, it's nice to have it morph into friendship. I don't want to have bad blood with anyone, ever... if I can help it."

The term "conscious uncoupling," which refers to splitting without angst, went viral after the actress used it to describe her separation from her then-husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The couple were married for ten years until their divorce in 2014 and shared two kids, Apple Blythe, 18, and Moses, 16.

Five years after the divorce, the Goop Founder explained in detail during an episode of Armchair Expert what the phrase "conscious uncoupling" truly meant with reference to her split from Martins.

She said at the time that it was a "way to circumvent [pain of divorce] and go directly to the point where we're friends, and we remember what we loved about each other, and constantly acknowledge that we created these incredible human beings together."

"We're a family, that's it," she added, per People. "We can pretend we're not, and hate each other… or, [we can] try to reinvent this for ourselves."

Paltrow has since suffered "brutal" backlash for using the phrase, a claim she confirmed during that same interview. However, she sees no reason to change her view on the subject.

"I really do believe that if you've invested in somebody — and of course, there are exceptions — to amputate that relationship [shows that] maybe you're not then fully letting the full lesson reveal itself, and the healing happen," she added. "I think it's nice to work through it and reconnect with the value that that person brought to your life."

On how she stays productive amid juggling a busy career, raising her kids, and running her business, Paltrow revealed that it all starts with being a positive, optimistic person.

"I am a deeply optimistic person, and I think that impacts having a positive outlook on life," she said during her recent Q&A session, per Yahoo. "I think the reason I have a positive outlook is because I try to have a really strong relationship with my body — myself, my relationships and a higher power."

The mother of two added that the trio of reasons sets the basis for other requirements. She said, "Those three things make everything fall into line, and I think it gives me a baseline of positivity."
