Despite being found guilty and the subsequent sentencing, Todd and Julie have maintained their innocence. They also revealed that they intended to appeal the sentencing for a more favorable outcome. After appearing in court and receiving their sentencing in November, Alex Little of Burr & Forman LLP, their lawyer, spoke to People Magazine.

Little claimed that the court's ruling concerning Todd and Julie was tainted by lies told to the jurors. "Todd and Julie are people of faith, and that faith gives them strength as they appeal their convictions," the attorney said.

"Their trial was marred by serious and repeated errors, including the government lying to jurors about what taxes the couple paid. Based on these issues, we are optimistic about the road ahead," Little continued.
