Kelsea Ballerini is shedding more light on her recent divorce from her ex-husband Morgan Evans whom she married on December 2, 2017.
While the estranged couple may have had the best nearly five years of marriage, Ballerini sadly called it quits on August 29 of this year, resulting in her lately explaining why she made such a decision.
Kelsea Ballerini Says The Glitters Wore Off In Her Marriage
The 29-year-old music star has had quite an exciting year, from dropping her chart-topping album "Subject to Change" to sharing the news of her divorce not long after. Although the breakup came only after almost half a decade of marriage, she feels unburdened by the change and its effect on her mental health.
Having a candid conversation on the "Tell Me About It With Jade Lovine" podcast, Ballerini discussed on the events that led up to the end of her marriage, pointing at the initial stages of the couple's loss of affection. While recalling a time when she did not feel her marriage anymore but hoped it would pass, she said:
"For a while, it was kind of like, 'OK, this is just a new phase of a relationship. Because relationships go through seasons, right? And it's not always going to be butterflies and rainbows."
For a period after that, she had the same thought and was usually like, "Oh, this is just… The glitter wears off. That's what happens." The country-pop icon mentioned that she got into a "phase" where she waited for the spark in their marriage to return, but unfortunately, it did not.
So, she decided to file for divorce mainly because she felt it was the right thing to do for her happiness and mental health. "At the end of the day," she explained, "It is such a disservice and a dishonoring of yourself if you know something is not right and you stay."
Given her decision, Ballerini maintained that she refused to feel "shame," however, she sent her haters a message, saying, "Judge me for it, fine, that's on you."
Two months after the country music couple filed for divorce, they reached a swift settlement arrangement, appearing to favor them as evidenced in the court documents obtained by The Blast.
The proceedings revealed that the duo, who had a prenup agreement, had moved out of their marital home in Nashville. Their property was also listed for sale using a jointly agreed upon real estate agent while they shared their household furniture and other personal assets.
News of their divorce became apparent when Ballerini took to her social media page to share a lengthy message. A move that the "Miss Me More" singer described as a "Deeply Difficult Decision." She shared:
"Friends, I've always tried my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way while also protecting layers of my personal life as they unfold."
Afterward, the "Dibs" vocalist mentioned that the divorce had become a "public record," prompting her desire for fans to hear the update directly from her. Describing it as a "deeply difficult decision," she added that it stemmed from a "journey of love, growth, and effort that ultimately has come to an end."
Despite that, she was "extremely grateful" for her years of marriage to Evans and remained hopeful for the new phase of her life. In rounding off the note, she penned, "With very active schedules coming up, please be mindful that we are both fragile, actively healing and showing up the best we can."
The 'Legends' Songstress Alters Songs Lyrics To Include Divorce Drama
During Ballerini's Heartfirst tour in New York in September, she made some interesting opinions about her divorce drama by changing some lyrics at a concert. The Blast reported that at first, she switched up that of her single "What I Have," where she sang "I got my own body in bed," instead of "I got a warm body in bed."
And for "Get over Yourself," the "Peter Pan" singer voiced out, "I'm the crazy b*tch that wrecked your life" rather than "I'm the crazy ex that wrecked your life." She also sang about the situation in "Doin' My Best," a song from her most recent album in which she referenced the end of her friendship with her ex-friend, Halsey, due to her marriage. In her words:
"I was friends with a pop star / I put 'em on track four but / Wish I could take it back; I would've never asked / If I knew we wouldn't talk anymore."
