Model Paulina Porizkova is opening up on her modeling “comeback” following the release of her latest book, “No Filter.”
The 57-year-old supermodel became the first Central European woman to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in 1984. In 1988, she signed a $6,000,000 modeling contract with Estée Lauder, which was the highest-paying modeling contract at the time.
Paulina Porizkova Responds To Rumors She’s Making A Modeling ‘Comeback’ At 57
In her latest Instagram post on Wednesday, December 14, the “Anna” actress shared her “no makeup” makeup look for her last photo shoot of the year. Although Paulina said that people often congratulate her on her “comeback” to the world of modeling, she doesn’t think of her recent career shift as a “comeback.” However, she did admit that “it makes me smile” whenever she hears that.
“When I was a model, I’d mostly work every day. So, at least a couple of hundred different jobs, anything from catalogs to fashion spreads and campaigns and stuff in between,” Paulina explained. “This year, there have been companies who have used me in their campaigns as a model, supporting the ‘older’ woman, and I’m super grateful to them!” She tagged a few brands, such as Rag and one, Another Tomorrow, and Love Chicos, which she revealed hasn’t come out yet.
Paulina said that she has also done covers and fashion spreads for WWD, Harper's BAZAAR Czech Republic, and many more. “And the one I’m on right now- which will come out next year,” she added, noting that it makes her “seven modeling jobs a far cry from a comeback.”
“This is not to sound ungrateful! I’ve had an amazing year filled with career highlights. It’s merely a statement of fact. I’m hardly making a ‘comeback as a model,’” she explained. “But I’m thrilled and grateful to all the people who have chosen to work with me this year.”
“Thank all of you who have worked with me, you are all contributing to pushing the envelope on how long we older women get to feel beautiful and relevant,” she concluded, wrapping up her post with the hashtags #betweenjloandbettywhite, #grateful, #invisiblenomore, #greypride, and #grayrevolution.
Fans Show Support For Paulina’s Body Positive Message: ‘Still A Comeback’
Although Paulina doesn’t think that her current modeling work compares to her previous busy schedule, many of her fans still think that she’s making a comeback simply by putting herself out in the spotlight. One fan commented, “Still a comeback IMO because there’s much less work around for models our age… but I think thanks to people like you, that’s changing!
“You don't need a modeling comeback, for you've grown to become an author, an influencer, your own brand, and an inspiration to many women on a deeper level,” another follower shared. “I think it’s a comeback and an amazing suite of brands!” a third fan chimed in.
“You look as beautiful as ever, so happy to see these companies are embracing aging. You are such an inspiration for so many of us. Thank you for being so real and honest about things Paulina and being willing to share them with us,” another follower commented.
“I am so happy you have these opportunities. You look fabulous, but I finished your book and I know you are no comeback model,” another follower wrote. “You are just getting the recognition for your words and your inspiring spirit. I know I loved learning more about you and you taught me that I to have tried to enter my home through the chimney and I never knew how to express it.” Another follower wrote that Paulina makes them "happy to be living in a time when aging is okay."
However, not everyone felt so positive. One user noted, “A football player, a tennis player or any other athlete do not have comebacks. Once their career is over, it is over for good. So grab every opportunity you get and enjoy what you have, which is much more than most women your age have.”
However, it’s worth noting that NFL star Tom Brady retired and then decided to unretire earlier this year, so anything is possible!
