Actress Emily Blunt has clarified her statement concerning a piece of advice given to her by Tom Cruise on the set of "Edge of Tomorrow," saying that people are taking it out of context.
The stars acted alongside each other in the sci-fi movie in 2014, with Blunt playing Rita Vrataski and Cruise as Major William Cage. Other actors in the film include Brendan Gleeson, Bill Paxton, Charlotte Riley, and others.
Although there was speculation concerning a possible sequel for the famous movie, Blunt previously revealed that it was unlikely. Emily Blunt Says Tom Cruise Wanted To Make Her Laugh
Blunt spoke to E! News to clarify a story she mentioned about her time on the set of "Edge of Tomorrow" with Cruise. She said the actor had told her to "stop being a p***y" when she started crying on set because she felt uncomfortable in her costume.
In her statement, Blunt revealed that the story was taken out of context and something she thought was really funny was made to seem like it offended her. "It's ludicrous that it's being spun as something that offended me. It didn't. I shared the story as lightheartedly as it was meant by Tom."
"The Quiet Place" actress referred to Cruise as her close friend and someone she adored. Blunt also revealed that while working together, the Mission Impossible" star was "a total gem to me." His calling her a "p****" was apparently in a bid to make her laugh, and she did. According to the actress, the memory was something they laughed about till this day.
She Cried On Set Of 'Edge Of Tomorrow'
In a December 12 episode of the "SmartLess" podcast, Blunt looked back on her time filming "Edge of Tomorrow" and her struggles on set. Before starring in the film, the actress was primarily involved with rom-com genres, and as a result, the entire process was really new to her.
She recalled wearing "enormous suits" which weighed so heavily on her she began to cry. Blunt revealed that she had trained extensively before filming and was involved in gymnastics, sprints, Israeli martial arts, and, most importantly, weights. This all did little for her because, according to the actress, she could barely move with the suits on.
"We had to wear these enormous suits, which I think would've been great if we had CGI'd them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way," Blunt said to the podcast hosts, Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett.
She continued, "When you hear the word 'tactile,' you think that sounds nice and cozy. There was nothing cozy about these suits. It was like 85 pounds. It was so heavy," she added. "The first time I put it on, I started to cry, and [Cruise] didn't know what to do."
Tom Cruise Told Emily Blunt To Stop Being A 'P***y'
In the middle of her breakdown, Blunt revealed that she told Cruise, her co-star at the time, that she wasn't sure she could go through with the shoot. "I said, 'I'm feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot,'" the actress recalled.
The "Mission Impossible" star reportedly was at a loss for words at Blunt's tears but ended up giving her a response that shocked her out of her emotions. Blunt said, "I was like: Tom, I'm not sure how I'm going to get through this shoot,' and I started to cry. 'I'm just feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot.'"
"He literally stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, 'Come on, stop being such a p***y, OK?'" Blunt revealed that she was amused enough by his comment that she laughed, and they eventually worked through it.
Emily Blunt Sustained Injuries On 'Edge Of Tomorrow'
During the "SmartLess" podcast, Blunt revealed that while doing some stunts on wires, something went wrong, resulting in some lasting injuries. The actress hurt her collarbone and ribs, and they still persist to this day. She also dislocated her thumb and almost broke her nose, but a medic on set popped two fingers in to move the cartilage back.
In 2021, Blunt clarified rumors about a possible "Edge of Tomorrow" sequel, revealing that the movie was too expensive and nobody knew what would happen. However, she admitted that she had read a great script for the project if it were to move forward.
While talking to Howard Stern last year, Blunt said per CinemaBlend, "Honestly, I think the movie's too expensive. Yeah, I don't know how we're going to do it. I think that it's hard to align everyone's schedules." She added that while everyone, including the director, would love a sequel, they needed to "figure out what's going on with the industry."
