'We've Been Separated For Several Months'
In a preview for the December 18 TLC tell-all episode, Janelle confirmed claims from fans that she and Kody have broken up.
While she did not reveal the exact date when they decided to part ways, she shared that there was no going back.
"I think if we both really sat down, we'd look at each other say, 'Really?'" the 53-year-old reality star revealed in the clip. "We've been separated for several months."
Kody echoed the same sentiments to host Sukanya Krishnan, saying, "Yes, we are separated." He also shared that his now estranged wife has moved on with her life and that there was no point in holding on to their strained bond.
He added, "Janelle has pretty well made it apparent to me that she's enjoying her life without me."
Before splitting, the pair shared six children, Madison, 27, and Logan, 28, while Savannah, 17; Gabriel, 21; Garrison, 24; Hunter, 25, were adopted from Janelle's previous marriage.
Janelle Brown Once Said Her Relationship With Her Partner Was' Pretty Strained'
Signs that Kody and Janelle would soon part ways were seen far back in March 2021, when she told US Weekly that sharing Kody with his other wives was sometimes challenging.
"Of course, I still get jealous," she said at the time. "But I learned a long time ago [that] you really just have to figure out how to be OK with yourself."
The TLC reality star continued, "You have strengths, and you have blessings, and you have opportunities that you're given … you can't compare. I just think the comparison is, like, the death of plural marriage."
Several months later, she revealed that her relationship with Kodu was "pretty strained," further hinting at an impending separation, which has now played out. At the time, the mother of six also stated that walking away from the marriage won't be difficult, perhaps implying that there was no legal binding to her union.
Christine Brown Left The Polygamous Family
Janelle's revelation about leaving Kody comes a year after another wife of the patriarch, Christine, also decided to end her union with him after more than 25 years together.
Following the breakup, she thanked her fans for their support and said she had thought about making the decision for a long time.
"Thank you for supporting me with leaving Kody," Christine said in a cameo video, per Us Weekly. "The decision was a long time coming, and I feel like a much better person divorced than I ever did, and life is so great."
She also voiced her desire to remain cool with Kody despite their split. Christine added, "I just hope that Kody and I can still remain friends during all of this because we've been still [really] communicating with each other and stuff. I mean, good and bad days — don't get me wrong."
Christine Brown Shared Her View About Kody And Janelle's Split
Elsewhere in the trailer for the One-on-One special, Christine weighed in on the breakup between Kody and Janelle.
"For Janelle, I think that she's frustrated and she's so hurt. And that man that she was married to, she realizes that he's totally different. But she's different too," she said.
Although Christine did not exactly note the changes she was referring to, much of season 17 showed that there was trouble in paradise between Kody and Janelle despite their still being together at the time.
In the meantime, Kody is still spiritually tied to Meri and legally married to Robyn. The first part of the "Sister Wives: One on One" special debuts on TLC on December 18.
