Howie The Crab Has 'Promising News' During Her Tough Molt

It's day 29 for Howie the crab who's still trying to molt but having extreme difficulties. The TikTok famous crab has stolen the hearts of her followers who stay hopeful that things will turn around for the sweet rainbow crab. Howie's mom keeps all her fans in the loop with daily updates on TikTok and Instagram.

On day 28 of what seems like much longer for Howie's mom and all of her fans watching and waiting for good news, there was a small update, but also a message to people who aren't being kind.

"Day 28 (feels like day 10,000) no molt. Howie is resting at the water line to both push water into her shell and to get air when she needs it without wasting energy," Howie's mom began her update caption. "While my love and patience for her is endless, I understand the disappointment everyone is feeling. I've been receiving some not nice messages from frustrated fans. If you choose to unfollow us because it's causing you too much stress I understand but please don't take your frustrations out on me ?."

She concluded her update with by telling everyone that she appreciates the well wishes and that things are "holding steady." "Her progress may seem a little stagnant but her physical condition is still holding steady. She's alert, responsive, and very crabby."

The most recent update on Instagram shows there's still hope to hang on to. "I used my digital otoscope to check Howie's progress to see if her mouth parts have regenerated and they have! (the second picture) And this is promising news!," Howie's mom wrote in the caption. "I know the picture will be confusing to a lot of people but her new teeth have grown in behind her old ones. She will shed her old teeth and upper jaw when it's time."

Howie's mom continued the caption by explaining why she hasn't been able to eat during this long process. "Her mouth is actually fully closed until she molts because there's a membrane in the way between the old and the new parts. This is why she is not eating and cannot be force-fed. Any attempt to force feed a crab during their pre molt would obstruct their breathing."

Many of Howie's loyal fans have dropped into the comment section to thank Howie's mom for not only the updates but also for educating people along the way. "Thank you for educating us ❤️ we’re all supporting you Howie! ❤️," one fan wrote. Another added, "Learning so much about crabs while checking on dearest Howie's progress with this molt, thank you for updating us regularly ❤️✨"

Howie's mom shared a photo of matching hats for her and Howie for when this molting ordeal is behind them both. She's staying positive and looking forward to more fun days with her pet crab. "I knitted 'mommy and me hats' for Howie and I for when after she molts ❤️" was included in the caption.
