In the petition, obtained by The Blast, Jonah Hill says his reason for changing his name is simply, "'Jonah Hill' is Petitioner's professional name. Petitioner wants to make his professional name his legal name." Jonah has a long list of credits under his professional name, and sometimes it's more convenient to have your professional name match your legal name on paper.  For example, actors are constantly signing contracts for new projects and if they have a stage name, there could be extra steps to make sure the contract is legally binding if their legal name is a completely different name.  Luckily for Jonah Hill, he's only dropping his last name, and making his middle name his official last name.

Kylie Jenner experienced a name change situation this year when she announced on her social media that she and her partner, rapper Travis Scott, decided they no longer called their son "Wolf". Travis Scott's legal name is Jacques Webster, and his son's legal name was originally Wolf Jacques Webster.  Kylie took to her Instagram to explain the situation and wrote, "FYI OUR SONS NAME ISN’T WOLF ANYMORE. WE JUST REALLY DIDN’T FEEL LIKE IT WAS HIM. JUST WANTED TO SHARE BECAUSE I. KEEP SEEING WOLF EVERYWHERE." Kylie and Travis have yet to announce their son's new name, but they'll have to file a petition in court in order to legal change his name.

Jonah Hill's name change petition still need's a judge's signature, but the process is pretty straight forward.  A name change decree will most likely be issued in about a month or so.
