The band's excitement for the record is palpable; Metallica gave fans some insight into the record on their website.

According to the site's details on the album, Hetfield and Lars Ulrich are at the helm of the record's production alongside Greg Fidelman.

The concept of the album is incredibly important to Hetfield. "72 Seasons" examines the idea of growing up and feeling a variety of emotions we all collectively feel during our integral teenage years. Those experiences ultimately end up having a massive impact, solidifying who we grow up to be in the future.

"72 Seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves," Hetfield explained via Variety, "The concept that we were told 'who we are' by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are," he continues, "I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Most of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to those childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry," Hetfield concluded.
