The first "Spider-Man" movie was released in 2002 and saw Tobey Maguire portray the webbed hero and reprise his role in the two sequels. Sony Pictures released "The Amazing-Spider-Man," in 2012, however, with a different actor as the hero. Andrew Garfield played the neighborhood hero this time; however, it had only one sequel.

While Garfield's version of the hero is not the most popular, the actor's portrayal holds a place in fans' hearts. This is evidenced by their reaction when he appeared, along with Maguire, in the latest installment of Holland's trilogy, "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

During the interview, the DNCE frontman was asked about the movie rejection that "destroyed" him. Jonas revealed that Sony's decision to forgo him in favor of Garfield for the role of Peter was painful for him. He, however, noted that the actor was, of course, the right candidate for the role.

The artist told Variety that, "In the moment, you're destroyed or you're defeated. But you realize this person was brilliant. I remember years ago, I was up for Spider-Man, and I was so, so excited, and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it. Obviously, he was the right one."

The actor admitted that he thought he stood a chance at the audition mainly because before Marc Webb started featuring movies like "(500) Days of Summer, he used to direct music. Jonas continued, "But I remember that was a big thing at the time, going back for callbacks, and the director used to be a music video director. So I was like, "I got an in here."

When asked if he got to wear a Spider-Man costume as part of the audition and if there were any pictures of him in it, Jonas admitted there weren't. He said, "No, but I'm sure I had one that I would try on occasionally back in the day."

While discussing preparing for his role in "Devotion," Jonas revealed that he had been away from acting, but the pandemic gave him some time to catch up. The artist also talked about his wife and her input during the audition. Jonas called her his biggest critic and commended the "Game of Thrones" star for her help.

"When you have a wife like Sophie Turner, who is a phenomenal actress, the one filming you and directing you through it, you got to bring your A-game," Jonas said per Variety. "She's my toughest critic. Yes, I'm going to be a little nervous [but she's] super helpful, and I feel like what a great acting coach to walk me through this. And I do have her to thank.

The artist revealed that when he felt he had gotten a part right, Turner picked apart the work and gave him her honest opinion. He continued, "It was when I think I nail it, and then she's like, "No, you're going to have to do that again." I'm like, 'Shit!' But that's what it's about. I'm glad that she gives me her honest opinion. That's what you need."
