Country Music Star Chase Rice Was 'Wrecked' By First Album In 5 Years

Country music singer Chase Rice, known for his hit songs "Eyes On You" and "Lonely If You Are," is opening up about his first album since 2017.

Although the 37-year-old has released songs since then, the singer has not worked on a full album in five years. Until now.

Rice took to Instagram to announce his upcoming album, “I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go To Hell,” is finally finished, and he can't wait for his fans to hear it. But this one is special.

"For 10 years I've put out a glimpse of who I truly am in my music, but I've never been able to piece it all together," Rice wrote on Instagram. "I was chasin' whatever bullsh*t thing I thought I was supposed to be doing at the time. I'm done with that."

He continued, "February I'm putting out my first full album since 2017, and this one wrecked me. I finally deal with the loss of my dad in this music, and this is an album I know he would be proud of. I wouldn't use his picture for the cover if I didn't fully believe in these songs."

"Today would have been my parents 43rd wedding anniversary, o mom I love you, and dad, this one's for you," Rice concluded.

Chase Rice's father, Daniel, died of a heart attack in 2008. He was 57.

In 2020, Rice took to social media to share a beautiful photo of him and his father, honoring him.

"This is my dad. He died 12 years ago today," he wrote. "Losing him crushed me, and sent me into some weird places in my life. But I learned more from him in 22 years than most get in a lifetime. For that I’m grateful, and thank God every morning sitting on a rocking chair on my front porch at my house."

He continued, "He had a mustache, and it was better than your dads, unless your dad was Dale Earnhardt, in that case, your dad won. Other than that, mine was the champ. Love you pops, drink a beer with Jesus and tell him hey for me tonight."

More recently, Rice released a new song, "For A Day," honoring his late father, which he performed at the Grand Ole Opry. "This is as raw as it gets," Rice said on stage. "I miss my dad every day, and if I could have one more with him here's just a couple things I'd do with him."

Rice went on to say, "My favorite part would be seeing him with my niece and two nephews. I did three takes on this, one for each one of them, and I couldn't hold it together for any of 'em."

The 37-year-old got emotional when he recalled the first time he ever performed at the Opry, with his mom there supporting him from the front row, with an open seat next to her for Rice's father.

"I looked down that night, I saw her. She was by herself, she had an empty seat next to her," Rice told the audience. "My dad passed away when I was 22 years old, and that's probably the biggest reason why I ended up moving to Nashville and doing this for a living."

"And to be honest with you guys, I think I've done a pretty bad job at showing you who I am through my music over the last 10 years," he continued. "And you got bits and pieces of it, but this next record that we're about to put out is by far the best, most vulnerable, real music that I've ever done in my life."

"For a Day" is expected to be on Rice's upcoming album, “I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go To Hell,” which will be released in February.
