The annual “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions is now over, and this one was definitely one for the record books!
Although everyone played a great game, there was only one winner! Check out who won and how it all went down!
Amy Schneider, Andrew He, Or Sam Buttrey: Find Out Who Won The 2022 ‘Jeopardy!’ Tournament Of Champions!
In the first game, it was anyone’s game going into the Double Jeopardy! round. Amy was leading with $5,000, but Sam was close behind at $4,800 and Andrew had $4,200. In the second Daily Double, Andrew bet “all the beans” and doubled his score to $15,600. Going into the Final Jeopardy! round, Andrew had $18,800, Amy had $14,600, and Sam had $12,000.
The Final Jeopardy! category was “GEOGRA-FLEE.” The clue read: “In July 2022 the ousted president of this country fled west across the Indian Ocean to the Maldives.”
Both Andrew and Sam were able to provide a correct answer of “What is Sri Lanka?” Andrew added $10,401 dollars to win with $29,201 dollars. Sam’s final score was $12,000 and Amy’s was only $4,600. This was the first of Andrew’s three wins.
Let’s Move On To Game #2!
In the second game, Andrew doubled his score with the first Daily Double clue, earning him a commanding lead of $9,200 going into the Double Jeopardy! round, while Amy had $4,600 and Sam had $2,200.
Although Amy added a conservative $4,000 on the second Daily Double clue, Andrew doubled his score to $20,000 with the last Daily Double of the game. It gave Andrew a slight lead into the Final Jeopardy! round: he had $23,200, Amy had $22,200, while Sam only had $9,400.
The “Final Jeopardy!” category was “NAME’S THE SAME.” The clue read: “Name shared by a Victorian novelist & an 1805 flagship captain whose name is heard in a famous phrase.”
No one was able to come up with a correct answer of “What is Hardy?” Amy made a conservative wager of $1,100 winning the game with $21,200. Andrew bet big and finished in third with $1,999. Sam had bet nothing and came in second with $9,400. This tied the game with Andrew and Amy each having one win.
Game #3 Gave Andrew His Second Win!
The third game was very close going into the Double Jeopardy! round, with Amy and Andrew each having a total of $3,800 while Sam had $3,600.
Andrew again doubled his score with the last Daily Double of the round; however, Sam was able to gain a lead with $14,800. Andrew had $13,200 while Amy only had $2,400 after this round after losing $5,000 on the second Daily Double.
The Final “Jeopardy!” category was “THE NEW TESTAMENT.” The clue read “Paul’s letter to them is the New Testament epistle with the most Old Testament quotations.”
Only Amy provided a correct answer of “What is Hebrews?” Sam wrote “Romans,” which has caused some debate as to whether or not this could have been accepted as a possible answer. There is also an additional debate as to whether Paul actually wrote the letter in the clue.
Regardless, Andrew was declared winner of the match with $9,999. Amy came in second with $3,400 and Sam came in third with $3,199. This gave Andrew is second win, with only one more needed to claim victory.
Game #4 Gives Amy Her Second Victory!
The fourth game of the 2022 Tournament of Champions was clearly Amy’s game! Although Andrew doubled his score during the first Daily Double of the match, going into the Double Jeopardy! round, Amy had secured a massive lead with $10,200. Andrew had $4,000 and Sam had $2,400.
In the second Daily Double, Sam wagered “the maximum amount permitted by law” and doubled his score, but Amy added $4,000 more to her total in the last Daily Double of the game. Going into the Final Jeopardy! round, it was a tight race between Amy and Sam. Amy had $25,000 while Sam had $20,000. Andrew was left behind with $6,800.
The Final Jeopardy! category was MOVIES & LITERATURE. The clue read: “Ridley Scott’s first feature film, ‘The Duellists,’ was based on a story by this author to whom Scott’s film ‘Alien’ also pays tribute.”
No one was able to come up with a correct answer of “Who was Joseph Conrad?” Sam bet all $20,000 and ended the game with nothing. Amy only wagered $6,000 and was able to win the game with $19,000. Andrew ended with $801. This game led to Amy’s second win, which meant that either Andrew or Amy could win the match in game #5!
Sam Scores His First Win In Game #5!
In the first game, Amy scored a strong lead going into Double Jeopardy! with $6,600. Andrew had $2,200 while Sam was in third with $1,600. Somehow, though, Sam managed to turn the game around in his favor!
In the second Daily Double, Andrew managed to double his score and then lost it all in the third Daily Double of the game. Amy was able to keep control of the leaderboard with $15,800, while Sam had $11,200 and Andrew had $6,800.
The Final Jeopardy! category was ENGLISH CITIES. The clue read: “William the Conqueror’s son built a fortress on a key Northern river in 1080, giving this city its name.”
Both Amy and Sam provided a correct answer of “What is Newcastle?” Sam bet it all, while Amy offered a conservative wager of 1,800. Andrew came in last with $100, Amy had $17,600, while Sam earned his first victory with $22,400. This gave Sam his first win while Amy and Andrew were both tied at two.
Game #6 Reveals The 2022 ‘Jeopardy!’ Tournament Of Champions Winner!
In the final game, Sam found all three Daily Doubles, which gave him a strong advantage over Amy and Andrew. However, both Andrew and Amy played fantastic games and managed to answer more questions correctly, giving Amy the lead going into the Final Jeopardy! round with $15,600. Andrew had $14,200, and Sam was in third with $8,000.
The Final Jeopardy! category was PLAYS. The clue read: “The January 12, 1864 Washington Evening Star reported on a performance of this ‘dashing comedy’ to ‘a full and delighted house.'”
Both Amy and Andrew provided a correct answer of “What is ‘Our American Cousin’?” Knowing this could be the final game, Amy ditched her conservative wagers and bet big, adding $13,000 to win with $28,600 dollars. Amy is now officially the 2022 “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions winner and will take home the $250,000 prize!
Andrew came in second with $17,001 dollars and earned $100,000. Sam, who got the answer wrong, lost everything and came in third place with $50,000 dollars.
Tomorrow, regular episodes of “Jeopardy!” will continue with champion Cris Pannullo, who will compete in the 2023 Tournament of Champions! Fans are already looking forward to it!
