It may be hard to believe that Sister Wives has been on the air for about a decade, but the show is now nearing its 14th season. Like many television shows, many people have been wondering if the show about polygamy has lost its edge.
Rumors that TLC is going to cancel the show have been strong after the last season. With so many complaints about the content of the show and the lack of filming, could Season 14 be the last viewers see of the Browns?
The newest season of the show premiered in January, and the finale aired without fanfare or a “tell all” episode. New episodes premiered on Sundays, and the finale on April 12 felt sudden to many of the viewers.
The season ended with Robyn unsure if she and Kody were going to be approved to buy a house and with Janelle’s daughter giving birth to a baby with some health issues. Viewers also not to figure out if the family decided to build one big house.
Every previous season has ended with an interview episode in which Kody and his wives discuss the events of the season. The children typically chime in as well. Did the ratings suggest filming a “tell all” would be a bad investment?
TLC has not made an official statement about cancelling Sister Wives. Could a Season 15 be in the works? No production seems to be going on at the moment, especially considering the halt in production of most reality shows as a result of COVID-19 social distancing.
Since TLC can’t film any new episodes right now anyway, it is difficult to even speculate if the show is on a long-term hiatus. The movements of the sister wives themselves on Instagram are no indication either.
Meanwhile, the wives have still been socially distancing in the midst of the pandemic. Janelle Brown has said that this would be much easier if all the wives lived in one giant house like they used to. Wife Robyn Brown says they are still social distancing and try to stay in touch via phone. They have more free time at the moment, which creates the ability to connect socially.
Could this desire to reconnect create a more intriguing season when TLC begins production of its shows again? Ratings in the past have not been terrible, but many viewers complained about the content.
The content has been less than stellar, as some viewers have complained that the episodes are becoming repetitive since the family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona.
Compared to Season 1 of the show, Season 14 does not delve into family dynamics as much. It lost sight of what people thought was charming and interesting about the family and instead showed a troubled family constantly moving from one house to another. It displayed financial troubles many people did not believe was real. Could another season save the show?
