Nick Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots, gave an unsettling update on her husband’s fight against the coronavirus on Tuesday. She revealed that the Broadway star went into septic shock on Monday after a lung infection spread into his blood. The news comes after he had a couple days of positive progress.
“We had kind of a bit of a rough day yesterday,” Kloots wrote in her Instagram Story. “Nick ended up getting an infection in his lungs that went into his blood, so he went into a little bit of septic shock. The cause of that was some infection in his lungs. They went in and completely cleaned out his lungs which was great, and they gave him some blood pressure medication to help his blood pressure come back up.”
“This kind of came out of nowhere, after two days of really great progress. He’s back to feeling better, he’s resting and the antibiotics are hopefully kicking in,” Kloots continued. “He is throwing us through some loops, that’s for sure, but I’m happy that he’s feeling good now and stable and the fever is under control.”
This is the second setback Cordero has suffered in recent days more than a week after he had his leg amputated due to complications from the virus.
“Unfortunately, they are not able to remove the ventilator today and put the trach [tube] in because early this morning he got a fever that caused his blood pressure to drop slightly,” Kloots said on Monday in a video she shared on her Instagram Story. “They are trying to just really make sure that this fever doesn’t really go anywhere, get out of control. They’re doing a couple tests to try find out the source of this fever,” Kloots added.
Kloots added that she is confident in the medical staff. “They have got it under control,” she said. “They are working on him and taking good care of him, but they are going to set aside the ventilator removal until they get this under control. So please keep us and Nick in your prayers.”
Kloots first revealed the severity of Cordero’s situation about three weeks ago on Instagram.
“My sweet husband needs your prayers please. Nick has been sick for awhile with what we were told last week was pneumonia. Unfortunately we think he was misdiagnosed and we are waiting to hear if this is in fact COVID. He is scared, in the ICU and now unconscious so his body can get enough oxygen,” she wrote at the time.
“We are all trying to stay positive and strong knowing that he is in the best care. I miss him terribly. I’m not allowed there to visit of course and can do nothing to help him. Nick is scared too, this has gone from bad to worse. He isn’t allowed to eat or drink, he is very weak and having a hard time breathing. Elvis and I are feeling completely fine. My hubby is fighting like a champ but this is serious. Please stay home everybody. Thank you to everyone who has been helping us so far you know who are and you are all angels.”
