Maria Carey was married to Tommy Mottola between 1993-1998.

She married her second husband, Nick Cannon, in 2008 and the two have twins Moroccan and Monroe. Cannon and Carey split in 2016, after six years together.

Carey toldPeople, ‘I’ve only been with five people in my life, so I’m kind of a prude, honestly, compared to most others in the field.’

One of those people is her backup dancer turned boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka who Carey started dating after she split with fiancé James Packer.

Tanaka and Carey have been linked for over a decade. That said, their relationship was professional. Tanaka was one of Carey’s backup dancers who went on Carey’s 2006 Adventures of Mimi tour.

‘Something connected with us back in the day and there was just a mutual admiration. She saw something in me that I actually didn't recognize at first, from that it was over. It was set in history that we were gonna be connected some way, some how,’ Tanaka toldPeople.

While on tour, Carey was dating and became engaged to James Packer. The couple’s relationship ended in October 2016.

That same month, news broke that Carey and Tanaka were dating.

In November, Carey and Tanaka spent Thanksgiving in Maui together and were spotted kissing on the beach.

On Valentine’s Day, Carey seemed to confirm their relationship with a picture of the two in a tub.

She captioned the loved up photo: 'Happy Valentine's Day!! #happyvalentinesday #happy #moments #bubbles.'

That same month, Carey was asked about her relationship with Tanaka. She responded by saying, ‘I just don’t feel comfortable talking about my personal life. … Me and my boyfriend don’t want to do that.’

And while the five-time Grammy award winner didn’t want to divulge much, her response was pretty telling. After all, she called Tanaka her ‘boyfriend.’

In April 2019, the two reportedly broke up but reconciled a month later.

Since then, the pair hasn’t shied away from showing their love on social media.

Tanaka, 37, was a prominent figure in the entertainment industry before his relationship with Carey. He’s done at least eight world tours, and besides Carey, he’s worked with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Usher, Madonna, and more.

And while he’s popular, fans were still shocked when he and Carey started dating. Partly due to their 13-year age difference.

But even with the negativity surrounding their romance, the pair have continued to put their love first.

Tanaka even gave Carey a shout out for the anniversary of her album, 'Caution.' He shared a picture of the two hugging with the caption:

‘Happy Anniversary to the #CAUTION album!!! It was absolutely amazing to see you create this beautiful body of work babe. The amount of love, detail, and passion you put into writing and producing your music is phenomenal!!!’
