Former “The Chi” star Jason Mitchell is denying he knew he was driving around with a ton of ecstasy and marijuana.
According to reports, Mitchell is adamant his recent arrest wasn’t his fault. Mitchell’s agent, Dr. Glenn Toby, says the actor’s arrest was a big misunderstanding. He says the actor was driving around town in a friend’s rental car to find a better lockdown situation.
He claims the drugs and guns inside the vehicle, which led to his arrest, were not his. He claims to have been heading to his mother’s home with family members when he was pulled over.
Earlier this week, Mitchell was arrested by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi. He was pulled over while driving around 2pm. Officers say they found two pounds of marijuana and 1,300 hits of ecstasy. Inside the car, they claim to have found two guns despite Mitchell not being allowed to possess weapons.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office took Jason into custody at around 2:27pm. The arresting charges included possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (marijuana), weapon, possession of by felon (Glock19), weapon, possession of by felon (mini draco) and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (ecstasy).
Jason was released from jail after posting bond.
The actor has had a rough couple of months after being accused of sexual harassment on set of “The Chi.” His costar, Tiffany Boone, complained to producers about his on-set behavior.
Mitchell was accused of similar behavior on the set of a Netflix film which he was fired from. In a matter of weeks, Mitchell was dropped by his talent agent and management.
Earlier this year, Comerica Bank sued Mitchell after he allegedly defaulted on a $60,000 loan. The bank says he stopped making payments the same month he was fired from “The Chi.”
