Ed Sheeran is getting slammed by Pokémon fanson Twitter after they had to sit through an almost four-minute song guise as a trailer.
The Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet Trailer Dropped
The trailer for the dual game has dropped and this is a moment fans have been waiting for, for a while and with it came another surprise, an unwanted new song by Ed Sheeran titled “Celestial”. Fans of the game took to Twitter to blast Nintendo and call out the singer for “ruining” their moment.
“Nintendo saying to wake up early for Pokémon news only for it to be some dumb ass Ed Sheeran song and no starter evos,” wrote one distressed fan of the game.
The comments only got worse from there because fans realized that the trailer also didn’t offer a lot in way of evolutions or other exciting elements that games like this thrive on.
Pokémon Fans Are Frazzled
“I wish Pokémon would’ve warned us that we’d have to listen to Ed Sheeran today,” commented an annoyed fan.
“A nearly 4-minute-long trailer set to Ed Sheeran just to reveal the Pokémon’s regional crystal gem forms,” pointed out another follower.
“They put Ed Sheeran's song in the new Pokémon game trailer and all it did was emphasize how lifeless the characters are it's making me actually scared, like not for the game just in general.”
Clearly, fans of the show, turned game phenomenon are irked at what is taking place here. “Your telling me I had to listen to Ed Sheeran for a remix of everything we have already seen,” engaged another.
They wanted more and expected that they might even get some new Pokémon or at least further evolutions of the cute and sometimes demon-like characters.
Not Everyone Is Mad About The Ed Sheeran Mashup
Some fans have embraced the new song and aren’t super bummed over the collaboration. “For me, an official Pokémon video on an Ed Sheeran song is such a dream… I’m very emotional right now,” admitted a brave fan of both entities.
One fan admitted to loving it but joked about the situation.
“Was I the only one who got teary-eyed during that trailer because Ed Sheeran did such an amazing job on that song and 25 years of Pokémon flashed before my eyes? No? Just me? Cool 😭 but man was it amazing!”
They got no support on that comment. Some people admitted the trailer is annoying, but they are impressed with they “really synced up her yelling to Ed Sheeran,” referring to a team leader screaming in a war cry situation.
“I am so excited to play Pokémon Scarlet. That last trailer legitimately made me cry. I forgot how good Ed Sheeran can sound but damn did he fit the vibe,” noted a fan of Pokémon and the “Shape of You” singer.
Ed Sheeran’s Song Has Nothing To Do With Pokémon
Fans also pointed out that Nintendo is only using the singer due to popularity and just used a song that means nothing to the insanely popular franchise.
“I still do not understand why they got f*****g Ed Sheeran to do a weird song that has nothing to do with Pokémon but couldn't get some voice acting into the game's cut scenes 😭,” pointed out a follower of the trend.
Another fan echoed that sentiment. “No one wants Ed Sheeran in their Pokémon trailer the way no one wanted him in Game of Thrones. 😂 Poor baby.”
The Complaints Kept Rolling In For Ed Sheeran
Another follower risked their health to comment on the weird dynamic between the song and the trailer. “Pokémon legit dropped an Ed Sheeran music video as a trailer for Gen 9 and showed exactly 1.8 seconds of new things. I’m too congested to be laughing my lungs out rn.”
One fan joked that Sheeran is having the last laugh knowing the song isn’t relatable but still
“Collecting all the ad revenue from the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet trailer reactions.”
