George Stephanopoulos Announces He's Recovered From COVID-19 And Will Donate Plasma

Just one week after revealing that he tested positive for the coronavirus, "Good Morning America" anchor George Stephanopoulos announced Tuesday morning that he is fully recovered and tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies.

"Good news for me and my family. Last week I tested positive for Covid antibodies, confirming I cleared the virus after weeks without symptoms. I’ve also signed up for a clinical trial to donate my blood plasma and expect to make the donation in the coming weeks," he tweeted.

People were appreciative of his donation and glad to hear he's doing well.

"I work in a hospital and convalescent plasma trials are the biggest hope for those with medium-to-severe symptoms. Your donation may well save someone's life," one person wrote.

"This is fantastic news and it’s great to see you doing your part to hopefully find treatment/vaccine for this virus," another said.

"Yay! Great news, so glad you didn't have the terrible symptoms and that you can now help with your plasma! Hope Ali is continuing her recovery and feeling stronger every day!" a third added

When he announced his positive test last week, Stephanopoulos said that he was asymptomatic.

"I also learned over the weekend that my tests came back positive for COVID as well, which is really no surprise given the fact that I've been here for a couple of weeks," he said during the "GMA" telecast. "I'm one of those cases that are basically asymptomatic. I've never had a fever, never had chills, never had headache, never had a cough, never had shortness of breath. I'm feeling great."

His wife, comedian Ali Wentworth, revealed her positive results in an Instagram post earlier this month. She had much more severe symptoms than her husband.

"I have tested positive for the Corona Virus," Wentworth wrote on Instagram. "I've never been sicker. High fever. Horrific body aches. Heavy chest. I'm quarantined from my family. This is pure misery."

Shortly after that news, Stephanopoulos talked about being her caretaker.

"Remember that so many of us in New York City are already presumed to have had it. I wonder myself whether I already had maybe a mild version and just didn't even know it, just there’s no way to know right now," he said. "I have to get a little bit close sometimes to take her temperature and do the oxygen test and I bring her food. I'm definitely being careful in wiping down and wearing gloves. I have not been wearing a mask. Usually she takes care of us 24 hours a day and now we’re doing our best to take care of her."
