Amber Heard's Twitter Disappears Days After Ex Elon Musk Takes Over

Actress Amber Heard doesn't seem to be willing to pay $8 for a blue checkmark.

In fact, the "Aquaman" actress deleted her Twitter account entirely following Elon Musk's takeover on October 28. It's not immediately clear why Heard waited until now to delete her Twitter account.

She has faced considerable backlash on the social media site for the highly publicized defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. However, the six-week trial wrapped up on June 1, and it's been months since their ill-fated relationship made headlines.

This has caused some fans to speculate that the reason Heard left the social media company is because it is now being controlled by her ex-boyfriend: Elon Musk.

Believe it or not, the “Zombieland” actress dated the Tesla CEO for several years on-and-off. The two first met on the set of the 2013 film “Machete Kills,” in which Musk made a cameo appearance. Although rumors started swirling that they were romantically involved, nothing was confirmed until Heard finalized her divorce from Depp from 2016. Musk also ended his marriage to his then-wife Talulah Riley that same year.

In April 2017, it seemed that things started to heat up between the pair. “When the time was right and they were both single last year, he started pursuing her romantically,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “She was playing hard to get for a while, which made him even more interested.”

That same month, she posted a photo that showed Musk looking away from the camera, a clear lip mark visible on his cheek. Heard had one arm slung over his shoulder as she glanced at the camera, wearing red lipstick.

Another source told PEOPLE that Musk was attracted to her “edginess” and liked that she wasn’t “concerned about being different.” The insider added, “She doesn’t get easily intimidated. She is very focused and loves to learn.”

However, by August, the rumor mill started churning with news that the two had split. Musk confirmed the speculation shortly afterward, blaming the split on their busy long-distance schedules.

“Btw, just to clear up some of the press storms this weekend, although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close, and love one another,” Musk wrote at the time. “Long-distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds.”

That being said, only a few months later, they spent the holidays together visiting Easter Island. In January 2018, they were photographed holding hands while walking through Los Angeles. The following month, however, the couple was over again. A source told Page Six that Musk had “made the decision to end things” and Heard had agreed.

“The timing just wasn’t right, but they still care about each other,” the insider explained.

In July 2021, Page Six reported that Heard had secretly welcomed a baby girl via surrogate. She named her newborn daughter Oonagh Paige after her late mother, Paige. In an Instagram post, Heard defended her decision to welcome a child as a single mother.

“Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms,” Heard wrote at the time. “A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this.”

That being said, Heard has never publicly disclosed the identity of her baby’s father and many speculate that it could be Elon Musk, who is currently father to ten children. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Musk had welcomed twins with a top Neuralink executive.

He also recently fathered two children with Canadian pop star Grimes: daughter Exa Dark Sideræl and son X Æ A-XII. Musk also shared two 18-year-old twins and triplets Damian, Saxon, and Kai, with his ex-wife, author Justine Wilson.

Of course, Amber Heard is not the only celebrity account to disappear from Twitter in the past few days. Singer Toni Braxton and “Grey’s Anatomy” writer Shonda Rhimes are only two of the recent celebrities who have decided to delete their Twitter account to protest Musk's new ownership.

Plenty of users are also deleting their Twitter accounts and it seems that Musk is doing himself no favors by suggesting he's now going to charge $8 for the blue Twitter verification checkmark.
