Nyong'o will star in the film spinoff of the franchise, which began with 2018's "A Quiet Place," directed by and starring John Krasinski. The sequel will be directed by Michael Sarnoski, fresh off directing the acclaimed Nicholas Cage-starring, "Pig." The film is based on an original idea by Krasinski.

THR reports that story details are currently being kept under wraps. The spinoff is due out in March 2024. However, considering the title, "Day One," it sounds like the spinoff will be related to the first day the mysterious, predatorial monsters of the franchise invade and cause massive havoc across the planet.

The original "Quiet Place" installment ended up making $188 million at the domestic box office and over $340 million worldwide. The 2021 sequel, "A Quiet Place: Part 2," also did incredibly well, grossing $167 million domestically and $297 million worldwide, and that's during a post-pandemic box office era. With that in mind, it's clear to see why Paramount wants additional installments and spinoffs further exploring the world of "A Quiet Place."

Krasinski directed the first two installments of the franchise. The first two installments of "A Quiet Place" also star Krasinski's wife, Emily Blunt. On top of "Day One," a third installment of the mainline franchise is also in the works and expected to release later in 2025. Deadline reports that Krasinski is returning to the director's chair for "A Quiet Place Part III."

"A Quiet Place: Day One" is being produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller under the Platinum Dunes Banner. Krasinski will also produce the spinoff through his Sunday Night banner with Allyson Seeger executive producing the film.
