Who Is Idris Elba’s Wife, Sabrina Dhowre?

In March, Idris Elba announced he tested positive for coronavirus by sharing a video to his Instagram.

In the video, his wife, Sabrina Dhowre, sat right next to the actor as he discussed his symptoms, saying, ‘This morning I tested positive for COVID-19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus.'

He added, 'Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I'm doing No panic.’

After his announcement, Elba received criticism for having his wife next to him.

Those who test positive for the virus are supposed to self-isolate. Elba responded to the criticism with another video.

‘Just for clarification, Sabrina wanted to be by my side, you know. As much as we talked about her not coming to where I am she did and wanted to, and I love her even more for it and I would do the same for her,” the ‘Luther’ star said. 'Who am I to turn down my wife’s support?'

A few days after, Dhowre revealed she tested positive as well.

But who is Dhowre and how did she meet Elba?

Elba and Dhowre met at a jazz bar in Vancouver in 2017 and immediately started dating.

According to the actor, it was 'love at first sight.’ The pair became engaged a year later and married in April 2019 in Marrakesh.

Dhowre’s family is from east Africa and Elba’s family is from West Africa, so they ‘thought it would be fun to meet somewhere in between.’

The wedding seemed picture perfect and the bride wore a Vera Wang dress as she said ‘I do’ in front of 200 friends and family members.

Dhowre is a beauty queen who considers Vancouver her home. In 2014, she competed in the Ms. and Mr. Vancouver Pageant.

Right before she met Elba, the actor discussed his desire to never get married again.

‘Am I ever gonna get remarried? I don’t think so. Yeah, I don’t think so,’ he toldEssence. ‘Marriage is an institution of sorts. And I’ve done it. It’s not for everybody. It’s not my life’s calling.’

Before his current wife, Elba was married twice before.

In 1999, Elba married Hanne "Kim" Nørgaard and the pair split in 2003. He then went on to marry Sonya Nicole Hamlin in 2006. But the couple were together for only four months.

With Kim, Elba has two children. He also has a son with ex-girlfriend Naiyana Garth.

While the ‘Thor’ actor might’ve wanted to avoid marriage, he’s obviously changed his mind.

And even though Elba and Dhowre are in quarantine, they seem to be making the most of their time together.
