Billie Eilish is finding out firsthand what kind of backlash can come from trying to be your own person.
Eilish was seen in a swimsuit while on vacation several weeks back, and got flack for sharing the photo even though she touts body positivity. She was interviewed in Dazed magazineabout the comments she received and how the trolls are reacting.
“I saw comments like, ‘How dare she talk about not wanting to be sexualized and wear this?!' It was trending. There were comments like, ‘I don’t like her anymore because as soon as she turns 18 she’s a w---e.’ Like, dude. I can’t win.”

Part of her fashion statement has been to wear baggy, oversized clothes so that people can focus on her music, and not her body.
She was heard during a backstage moment for a Calvin Klein campaign saying:
“Nobody can have an opinion [on my body] because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat a–,’ ‘she’s got a fat a–.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know.”
She just wants to wear something and not get criticized for it, which is an absolutely normal thing to want.
"If I wore a dress to something, I would be hated for it. People would be like, ‘You've changed, how dare you do what you've always rebelled against?' I'm like, ‘I'm not rebelling against anything, really.' I can't stress it enough. I'm just wearing what I wanna wear."
"If there's a day when I'm like, ‘You know what, I feel comfortable with my belly right now, and I wanna show my belly,' I should be allowed to do that."
In the interview with Dazed, she also talked about beginning to see differences in her body and being surprised at the changes.
"There was a point last year where I was naked and I didn't recognize my body [because] I hadn't seen it in a while. I would see it sometimes and be like, ‘Whose body is that?' "
"It's not that I like [my body] now, I just think I'm a bit more OK with it."
Her fans get what she's trying to say and support her all the way.
"I've gained a whole new respect, and empathy, for Billie. Imagine, other people thinking they've got the right to dictate your life. Hell with 'em! BE FREE BILLIE!" said heckybrown, next to the photo of Eilish underneath a spray of water while wearing a bathing suit.
