David Foster and his wife Katharine McPhee are opening up about the possibility of their son Rennie following in their musical footsteps and even choosing it as a career.
The couple welcomed little Rennie in February 2021, and he has been nothing but a source of joy to them. However, given his parents' background, many are wondering if the toddler has music flowing in his veins.
Foster and McPhee have made quite a name for themselves. The Canadian musician has won over 14 Grammy awards and earned 47 nominations, while McPhee is a talented singer and songwriter.
It is also of interest to note that the pair met on the set of “American Idol” back in 2006 when Foster appeared as a guest mentor and his wife was runner-up to winner Taylor Hicks. They, however, weren't romantically linked until 2017.
Katharine McPhee & David Foster Talk Son’s Musical Talent
The proud parents, during a recent interview, spilled the tea and updated the public regarding their son's musical growth.
The doting mum has recently been taking to her Instagram stories to share adorable videos of her son having a bonding session with his drums. Addressing the subject of a possible career in music for Rennie, Foster said, “You know, when you look at somebody like Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, their kids are very talented… but they are not tennis players, so we don’t know. He's so young”
Taking over the reins from her husband, the “Scorpion” actress added, “It makes sense that he’d be musical, but we’re not really sure.” She, however, affirmed, saying, “He’s certainly obsessed with the drums! Or imaginary drums, for that matter.”
The celebrity couple also touched on the subject of the holidays, as this Christmas will be the first where their baby boy gets to feel and enjoy the spectacle and splendor that comes with the celebration, given that he is one.
The “Best Of Me” musician gushed, “This will be the first year that we’re gonna experience that, and it’s gonna be incredible,” to which “Smash” actress added, “I mean, he won’t really know what it is until next year, but it’ll be exciting for him.”
As for the question of having another child, the pair confessed that they weren’t quite sure about their plans as regards that topic.
The 'American Idol' Star Entertained Her Fans With Rennie’s Drumming Skills
The proud mom loves to flaunt her toddler son's impressive talent, and such was the case earlier this month when she gave her fans a glimpse into Rennie's love for his drums.
Per The Blast, the McPhee shared with her fans via Instagram a video of her son having a fun time as he banged away at his drums while at his father’s studio.
Opening up the moment in her video, she wrote, “Then I picked up Rennie, and we went to see our main squeeze @davidfoster back in the studio… and Rennie was still banging on the drums.🤣😩 at all times.”
In the short clip, little Rennie could be seen having the time of his life as he focused on honing his drumming skills without paying attention to the adults at work. The video also featured the “Wild Flower” musician and his colleagues working their magic at the recording studio. However, the spotlight remained on the little one as his amused mother focused on capturing the hilarious scene.
Their Special Son Has Another Extraordinary Talent
When Rennie isn't playing with his drums, he keeps busy with another enjoyable sporting activity, proving he can thrive anywhere.
Back in July, McPhee revealed that her son has been excelling at a sport recently. The actress took to her Instagram story to share a picture of herself and her son enjoying their summertime on a golf course.
The picture showed the one-year-old curiously looking down at a golf hole while holding the flag pole on top of it. Captioning the image, the sweet mum wrote, “Start em young.”
The “Shark Night 3D” actress had the soon-to-be golf enthusiast dressed in a white and black round-neck shirt with grey Mickey Mouse shorts and white sneakers for the occasion.
