Model Paulina Porizkova is getting candid about life ahead of the release of her new book, "No Filter: The Good, The Bad, and The Beautiful."
The 57-year-old model has been sharing her candid thoughts on grief, depression, and aging on social media, along with some NSFW snaps. Paulina has nothing to hide in her new collection of personal essays, and she revealed exactly how her new book took shape in a new interview with WWD.
Paulina Porizkova Said She Felt 'Completely Ignored' By The World During Ric Ocasek Divorce
Paulina recently took part in the CBS reality TV show "Beyond the Edge," which required the 57-year-old to sleep on jungle floors in the rain and participate in other excruciating physical challenges in Panama. By the time she landed back in New York City, the former Sports Illustrated cover model admitted that she could barely walk.
“When I returned from this I couldn’t walk. I had lost like five pounds. I didn’t need to lose weight," Paulina said. "And they said, ‘OK, we want the book. Can you have it done by March 1?’ I was like, well I can’t walk and I can’t do anything else, so maybe I’ll just sit down and write the book. And that’s exactly what happened.”
Paulina has recently opened up about misconceptions in her marriage after her late husband Ric Ocasek passed away on social media, and clarified that they had already separated and were working on finalizing their divorce when The Cars frontman passed away.
“Before my husband died our marriage had disintegrated and we were already separated for two years and we were going through a divorce and the invisibility to my husband coincided with my invisibility to the rest of the world,” she said, noting that she felt "completely ignored" and had "no career" left.
“I was suddenly a divorced woman who had no career, had no way of making money, and also was completely ignored by the population at large and I thought that’s not cool because I’m actually a lot cooler now than I was 20 years ago,” she said.
Paulina felt that she had more to offer the world than she did in her youth, adding, “I am way smarter. I have more patience. I’m more intellectually curious. I’m more generous. Everything about me is better. But I have wrinkles and that does not make me ugly. I just thought that’s unfair.”
Paulina Is Okay With Accepting 'Subtle' Help To Look Her Best
Earlier this year, Paulina took aim at a plastic surgeon on social media who shared one of her selfies - without permission - and wrote in extensive detail all the treatments he would recommend to improve her facial features and make her look younger.
Although she said that she thought she "looked great" in the photo, the surgeon pointed out that “Those pesky hollows under my cheeks could be gotten rid of with fillers, Botox for my forehead, those wrinkles on the side of my mouth, and the chords in my neck, and a whole bunch of lasers to tighten and smooth and tighten everything.”
“This is what an older woman in the public eye gets to deal with,” Paulina wrote. “I’m told my face needs ‘fixing’. It has somehow gone ‘wrong’ by aging. Is it any wonder that most of us who have the means will resort to some form of fixing what we’re told is broken?”
“For the record, I have had laser treatments. And the plasma pen,” she explained. “I’d like to strike a balance between being proud to look my age and still get to feel pretty at times. In my job, I’m faced with my own face in almost unnatural detail – and although I have come to accept most of it, I still have a rough time accepting it all.”
In her interview with WWD, she admitted that she is a fan of laser facials and other non-invasive treatments that don't drastically change her appearance. “I just want a little subtle help. I don’t want any drastic stuff. I don’t want to eliminate my age," she said. "I just want to look as good as I can given the limitations.”
