Hollywood star George Clooney spoke candidly about how he felt when he learned that his wife, Amal Clooney, was expecting twins. Speaking on "The Drew Barrymore Show," the actor said he was "terrified" to receive the news, adding that the disclosure was all the more startling given his advanced age.

The Oscar winner also spoke about his proposal to Amal, which he called a "disaster" because it did not go as he had anticipated. The pair ultimately got married in 2014 in a lavish ceremony in Italy and welcomed their twins, Ella and Alex, in 2017.

On Friday's episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show," George revealed his first reaction to knowing that he and his wife, Amal, were pregnant with twins.

The actor told Barrymore, per HuffPost, "We went to that thing at 12 weeks where they go, there's the kid. [To] look at the picture of the kid," the "Ticket to Paradise" star recalled. "And [the doctor] goes, 'It's a boy.' Then he goes, 'And a girl.' And I was like, 'What?'"

George went on to say that he was "terrified" to discover that they were expecting more than one baby, seemingly suggesting that they had never thought of the possibility.

He added, "It was such a disaster. I was like, 'Are you kidding me?'" the "Ocean's Eleven" actor recalled telling the doctor. "Now, it's the greatest thing in the world. I was terrified then."

Elsewhere on the show, the Oscar-award-winning actor shared another detail about his personal life, recalling his proposal to Amal. George shared that things did not go as planned despite the immense effort he put into place.

"It was a disaster, I planned it out, I planned the whole thing out," the actor told the show host. "I've got the ring in a little drawer behind her, I've made dinner, and we had only been dating for about six months."

Reflecting further on the experience, George shared that the plan was to have Amal get something from the drawer and come across the ring placed in it. He also planned that the song "Why Shouldn't I" by his aunt, Rosemary Clooney, would play in the background at the time.

While Amal did discover the ring as planned, her reaction to seeing it was not what the Hollywood actor had envisaged. George shared that she thought the ring was left behind by one of his former girlfriends.

"She kind of pulls this thing out, this little drawer, and there's a diamond ring in there," the "Money Monster" star recounted the 2014 proposal. "And she looks at it, and she's like, 'Uh, there's a ring in there.' Like somebody left a ring there years ago. And I'm like on my knee…."

Seeing George on his knees jolted Amal to realize that the actor was proposing to her. She eventually said "Yes" after 20 minutes of screaming, "Oh my God, Oh my God."

Last month, George, who recently celebrated eight years of marriage with Amal, talked about one of the awful errors he and his wife made while attempting to raise their twins, Ella and Alex, to be well-rounded individuals.

"We made a terrible mistake," the actor told ET. "We taught them Italian. But we don't speak Italian, so we armed them with a language they can harm us with."

The actor also provided specifics on the values he hopes the children would develop as they grow older.

He added, "The same thing I think everybody wants to instill in their kids, really….Which is to pay attention to other people. "In my family, the rules were always 'Challenge people with power, defend people with less power.' And if you can do that, you've had a good life."
