Lady Gaga Was 'Mortified' Over Father's GoFundMe Page Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Lady Gaga’s father Joe Germanotta has reportedly closed his GoFundMe page, where he’d hoped to raise a whopping $50,000 to help cover the costs of his Joanne restaurant.

In a since-deleted tweet, Germanotta stressed that things weren’t looking too good for his business following the coronavirus outbreak, which has caused him to layoff nearly 30 employees - and if that wasn’t bad enough, the restaurant also had to be shut.

Gaga’s father wasn’t prepared for the COVID-19 spread to affect his restaurant in the way that it has, which ultimately led him to kick off a GoFundMe campaign in the hopes of covering his growing number of expenses.

‘I’m doing the best I can but we had to close Joanne for the month. Our staff needs some help financial. Any help for our employees will be appreciated,’ Germanotta tweeted.

The post has since been taken down.

Meanwhile, Joanne’s GoFundMe page detailed the seriousness of the financial calamity Joe’s restaurant has found itself amid the global crisis, before stressing what a total sum of $50,000 could do for the business.

‘Our amazing staff is made up of primarily hourly workers who depend on our payroll, and who overwhelmingly live paycheck to paycheck,’ the organizer of the page explained.

Furthermore, it was explained: 'Our goal of $50,000 would cover our typical payroll for approximately 2 weeks, and 100% of the profits would go to our hourly workers to provide those necessary items like food, childcare, and medical expenses.’

It wasn’t long before Germanotta would receive backlash for his decision to open a GoFundMe page while his daughter’s net worth is estimated at a whopping $320 million.

One person had vented on Twitter: “How rude of Joe to ask us average people for money while we’re dealing with coronavirus when he could have easily asked his daughter to cover his $50k expenses.”

Another user echoed similar words, saying: “Wow, the nerve of Lady Gaga’s dad to start a GoFundMe when his daughter has millions of dollars in her account. And from what I’ve seen… they’re pretty close - she should have no problem helping her dad out.”

Celebrity blogger and TV personality Perez Hilton kept the conversation going when he gave his two cents on the situation.

‘Lady GaGa is worth hundreds of millions of dollars AND is part owner in her family's restaurant,’ he tweeted.

Needless to say, after sparking outrage across the internet, the GoFundMe page was quickly removed - having only amassed a measly $541 during the time it was live on the site.

Sources close to the situation claim that Lady Gaga was “mortified” when she heard about her father opening a GoFundMe page, stressing she would have never allowed it to happen had she been informed about the situation beforehand.

Apparently, her father never made any mention of his financial struggle while she was quarantined with her beau Michael Polansky.

‘She had no idea he was doing that and that idea would have been shot down before he even finished bringing it up - and the worst part is, it’s her birthday,’ a source told Page Six.

‘Neither she nor Cynthia (her mother) would ever let that happen. It was him acting on his own, unfortunately, really bad impulse.’
