On Monday, Allen logged on to Twitter to talk about "woke" people; however, the response the actor got was more than he expected. He referred to "woke" people as "wokees" and asked who the face of the group was as well as their base.
"Who is the face of woke," the controversial tweet read. "Do wokees have a clubhouse in someone's backyard or maybe a cute yet safe playpen somewhere?" The post caused Allen's name to reach the Twitter trend table in the worst ways.
Several Twitter users referenced his drug trafficking-related arrest from as far back as 1978 and Disney's decision to cast Chris Evans as the voice of the lead in the new "Buzz Lightyear" movie. Other users declared they were the face of the elusive "woke" group.
Twitter Reaction To Tim Allen's Tweet
Allen's post had several quotes and even more comments criticizing the veteran actor's post. While some expressed dismay at him "ruining" his legacy with the comment, several others attacked the actor with past events.
One comment read, "Another racist POS who has no idea what it actually means to be woke. Chris Evans was a much better Buzz than you ever were." A second follower wrote, "The woke is the part of society that advocates for criminal reform, like when Tim Allen got busted for dealing Coke but was still given opportunities in life lmao."
A social media user notably identified himself as the face of "woke" and said Allen had a "fragile ego." "I'll be the face of woke," the comment read. "I'm a Marine Corps combat vet, long-distance Harley rider, farmer, businessman, know how to use my firearms to protect me from your January 6th Insurrection pals, and go 4-wheeling whenever I can. You've managed to be a white man with a fragile ego."
He Made Fun Of President Joe Biden
Last month, Allen went viral after making a wisecrack about President Biden after his appearance in the "60 Minutes" interview. The "Toy Story" actor wrote, "Biden was on 60 minutes. I heard he asked how long the show was."
Several twitter critics slammed Allen in his comment section and accused him of being "disrespectful" to President Biden, while others called the joke "lame" and "unfunny." A number of social media users said he was a "washed-up" comedian and claimed that the actor was trying to stay "relevant."
Not everyone was out to get Allen, however, as some supporters and fans of the actor came to his defense and claimed the joke was too harmless to warrant such a reaction. A tweet read, "Really?... Twitter is trying to cancel sitcom dad Tim Allen for telling a dad joke?... buttery soft."
Tim Allen Was Replaced By Chris Evans In The 'Lightyear' Movie
Allen, who was famously the voice of the Pixar character Buzz Lightyear, was replaced by Evans in the most recent "Lightyear" movie. The actor voiced the animated character for the four previous "Toy Story" movies from as far back as 1995. When asked about the change, Allen revealed that the 2022 film was entirely different from the projects he worked on and had another team.
The "Lightyear" casting was met with some criticism from both fans of the show and the actor's friends in the film industry. "Everybody Loves Raymond" actress, Patricia Heaton, took to Twitter when the casting was announced and called Disney out for attempting to "castrate" the astronaut doll character.
"Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear, and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns," the tweet read. "Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?"
The actress was corrected and made to realize that while similar, the Buzz Lightyear characters played by both actors are very different. One's an action figure, and the other is the human inspiration of said action figure.
