Mindy Kaling Comes To Anne Hathaway's Defense For Being 'Objectified Regularly'

Mindy Kaling is expressing her “love” for Anne Hathaway after watching the actress navigate Hollywood with absolute class!

From one actress to another, Kaling made it clear that she adores Hathaway’s composure way back in 2012 when she had to sit through an awkward interview with then Today Show host, Matt Lauer. “From the age of 18 years old [Hathaway] has been objectified regularly,” she says standing at Elle's Women in Hollywood Celebration in Los Angeles earlier this week.

“Despite loving her as a performer I'll tell you when I fell in love with her,” noted the fellow actress, who went on to reference that time a paparazzi attempted to get an upstart photo of Hathaway while she walked a red carpet.

The Les Miserables actress watched a photographer “positioned his camera low so he could take a photo up her skirt,” recalls Kaling. The next morning, Hathaway, 39 appeared on the Today Show where Lauer wouldn’t stop talking about the situation and her private area.

Kaling mocked the now disgraced news anchor, “On the Today show the next morning, Matt Lauer said to her in this chastising, someone-has-been-naughty way, 'Anne Hathaway I've seen a lot of you lately,’” Kaling paused in disgust.

“First of all, gross. Are you like a lame uncle at Thanksgiving?” She asked in a joking tone. “And then he asked her what's the lesson learned from something like that.”

Kaling remembers that “Annie simply responded, 'It kind of made me sad on two accounts,’”

She went on to slam Lauer with grace. ”’One that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of someone in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it and do the decent thing, sells it. And I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants.’”

Hathaway swiftly turned the attention back to the film she was there to promote leaving Lauer looking a little ridiculous. This was Kaling’s favorite part.

A few short years later, Lauer was involved in the MeToo movement when he was accused of sexual misconduct in 2014. In addition, Brooke Nevils a former NBC News employee claimed he raped her in his hotel room during the time he was meant to be covering the Sochi Olympics.

Lauer denied all allegations.
