Drake is sharing some inspiration with his followers on IG by releasing what he used to get paid for performances and, it’s shocking.
Drake Is Worth Millions
We all know that Drake is one of the biggest rappers in the world. He told the Grammys to stop nominating him, that says a lot! So, it’s hard to believe that someone who is worth over $200 million used to make $100 a show!
Drake posted an invoice for one of his first shows on Instagram Story. The invoice proved that the rapper made a mere $100 Canadian bucks for his set at the now-closed Kool Haus in Toronto, Ontario.
The city that Drake dubbed The6ix was where he was born, raised, and got his start. The “Best I Ever Had” rapper regularly talks about the love he has for his city and the love that his city shows him.
Drake Opened for Ice Cube
The show in question was an opening for rapper Ice Cube way back in 2006, over ten years ago. See what determination gets you? At the time, Drake would have been performing songs from his only available work, his mixtape Room For Improvement.
Drake took a moment to encourage all those who have big dreams like him. “This is for anybody getting 100 a show right now… keep going.” Drake’s Instagram has 122 million followers so his words of encouragement are reaching a lot of people.
Fans Weigh In On Drake’s Earnings
An Instagram account called The Flyer Vault which describes itself as “Documenting Toronto club & concert history” picked up the post and shared a little more detail about the performance in question.
“On August 19, 2006, Ice Cube headlined the Kool Haus with supporting act Drake in what was likely his first ever concert. The Boy got paid a handsome sum of $100 and performed cuts from his debut mixtape ‘Room For Improvement’ which was released earlier that year. Classic history!”
Fans weighed in on their personal experiences at this show. The fact he got paid for his first show is impressive. Degrassi clout,” wrote a follower. “I remember working guestlist at this show, Drake may have only been paid $100 but he brought in half the city for free,” so Drake of him!
Another follower even had a story about Ice Cube who is also known for having a heart of gold.
“Worked this show. Spent the day with Cube and his team. He was super intimidating for like, a second. Then the nicest guy and great tour manager. At the end of the night, I had him sign my #DeathCertificate vinyl, but mentioned to his manager I wished I had also brought my Friday DVD. Manager took down my info and a few weeks later, I opened the mail and found an autographed DVD from Cube. The best!! 🧊”
