Callahan was already on All My Children when Eva La Rue joined the cast in 1993.
She would play Dr. Maria Santos, who would become the love interest for Callahan's character. Maria and Edmund would become a favorite couple with All My Children fans.
Not only did their characters fall in love, but sparks also flew for John and Eva.
In November 1996, the couple got married. Five years later in December 2001, Eva gave birth to the couple's daughter Kaya.
Sadly, in 2005, the couple divorced. But they remained friends as they co-parented their daughter.

Like many actors, Callahan had bit parts in television shows. But in 1992, he hit his big break when he was joined the cast of All My Children.
Callahan's character Edmund Grey was a journalist, but later became a businessman.
He had a long-term rivalry with his half-brother Dimitri Marick.
But Edmund's most memorable storyline was his relationship with his wife Maria. The couple had their fair share of soap opera drama including paternity secrets and presumed deaths.
Callahan continued in the role of Edmund until 2005 when his character was killed off.

While Callahan will be remembered mostly for his work on All My Children, he was featured on a few other soap operas.
In the late 80s, he had recurring roles on daytime serial General Hospital, and the nighttime soap Falcon Crest.
After his departure from All My Children, he would be added to the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives in 2008.
Callahan played Dr. Baker, who finds himself involved in a baby switch story with Nicole Walker and her nemesis Sami Brady.

Aside from soap operas, Callahan had other outside projects.
Like other soap actors, he did a couple of small screen films.
Some of his credits include the independent films A Doggone Hollywood, and His and Hers.
He would then try his hand at horror and sci-fi films. One of his first roles was in the 2008 Syfy channel movie Bone Eater.
He would then go on to be cast in the 2010 sci-fi, campy thriller Dinocroc vs. Supergator.
Prior to his death, he had just finished taping scenes for the upcoming movie Loyalty.
