Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially wrapped up their duties as senior royals, and as they make their new lives in Los Angeles, they are starting to shed the trappings of their old lives. They suspended their Sussex Royal Instagram account, leaving their followers with a message of thanks and the promise on updates in the future.
“As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute. While you may not see us here, the work continues.
Thank you to this community — for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great!”
While some are excited to see what Harry and Meghan’s new life with baby Archie looks like in Los Angeles, Harry’s longtime biographer Angela Levin is aghast at their behavior. She wrote a lengthy piece for Tatler expressing her displeasure and calling their behavior “increasingly self-centered.”
“One would imagine that on the last days of being royal — today they officially relinquish their duties on behalf on the Queen — that they would be gracious and dignified. Instead, they released the news that they have quit Commonwealth country Canada, for the starrier Los Angeles, and that Meghan will voice a Disney documentary about elephants. Their choice of priorities smacks more of spoilt defiant teenagers than adults in their mid and late thirties.”
Levin spent a year working with Harry on writing his biography, and she thinks that he has undergone some serious changes since his marriage and decision to leave The Firm.
“I see a Harry who has turned sour, callous even and is obviously stressed. Although I barely recognise him I still believe that internally he is tearing himself into shreds about leaving his family, his country and his military connections. Perhaps he copes by focusing on his resentment at allegedly being sidelined by his family.
It would have been inconceivable for the Harry I met to quit a Commonwealth country and move even further away from his family in the midst of an emotional, Royal and national crisis. His father, 71, has the coronavirus. His grandmother, who he adored, will be 94 in April. She and his ailing 98-year-old grandfather are both self-isolating. A huge responsibility now lies on Prince William’s shoulders — a brother he told me he had ‘a duty to support’ and ‘would always be there for him.’”
Levin claims that both William and Harry never wanted the lives of celebrities, so she blames Meghan for the move to Los Angeles and the lifestyle changes that entails.
“So do Harry and Meghan both agree with their me-me-me lifestyle or is one of them the leader and the other so brainwashed they merely tag along? And what will Harry do while Meghan establishes her celebrity status in Los Angeles? Hold her handbag? Recently ‘Unnamed friends’ told an American magazine that she has forbidden Harry, who is no longer a little boy, from coming home to be with his family.
Yet even now he could make a significant difference to his country, boost morale and work with his brother. A role he told me he wanted. The country he loves is really struggling. Come home Harry. Your Country Needs YOU.”
Once again, this take disregards the fact that Harry is a grown man who can make his own decisions, but when has that ever stopped anyone from criticizing Meghan Markle?
