Fredrik Eklund is celebrating two years of sobriety. The "Million Dollar Listing: New York" alum took to Instagram to share his success and gratitude, as well as thank his fans for their ongoing support.
Fredrik Eklund Is Celebrating Two Years With No Alcohol
To mark the occasion, Eklund, 45, posted a carousel of photos of his 4-year-old twins, Milla and Fredrik "Freddy Jr." with husband Derek Kaplan, 47. "Today I celebrate 2 years without alcohol… the first time I shared was day 73 and people were like whaaat lol?!! I’m so grateful and happy, who knew sober birthdays were celebrated in such a major way. Even my kids woke me up with cake," he began his caption.
He continues by explaining what's changed since his last drop of alcohol. "In the last two years a lot has changed, important stuff and given me the most positive, bright outlook ahead. Fatherhood, work, travel, friends, and being present, it’s all come together. I’m still a work in progress but today feels like anything is possible."
His caption went on to explain that he's getting ready to "launch something pretty major in the next week or so, actually kind of related to sobriety." "More on that later here, I promise it’s going to surprise some of you in a good way. Thanks for all your support as always, love F xx."
Fredrik Eklund First Announced His Sobriety On Social Media On Day 77
Eklund first announced that he has given up drinking alcohol on New Year's Day 2021 with a post that explained his thoughts on the journey. "I’ve given up alcohol and though it’s still pretty early I wanted to share with you how I feel about it. It was simply time to stop, actually overdue, and if you know me well you know it’s been the one and only thing that’s given me extra weight as a father, business man and health-nut for way too long. Alcohol took more than I it gave me towards the end. And this comes from a guy who has his own wine," he wrote alongside a carousel of photos of him with daughter Milla.
"Today I have 77 days sober and couldn’t be more grateful to the people who influenced me to get here. Really. Its true what they say: it’s not easy but totally worth it. I’m not going to oversell you on it but it is night and day. This morning I started 2021 in the most beautiful sunrise with a clear mind and body. And hopefully every morning for the rest of my life, a life that’s more rewarding without it. As I know a lot of people (at least in my life) are toying with the idea on how to really stop - if interested please feel free to reach out to me for some gentle direction."
The reality star also gave the occasional update along the way on Instagram. During a daddy/daughter trip to Europe, Eklund posted a photo of him with Milla and ended the caption with, "Ps. 262 days sober today for everyone who’s asking btw! 🙏😁"
Fredrik Eklund Updates His Fans On His Sobriety Journey
When Eklund hit the 18-month mark of sobriety, he again updated his Instagram followers with how life has changed. "18 months without alcohol today. Some ways I’ve changed: feeling good early in the morning, full use of my intelligence, joy in my work, the love and trust of my children, lack of remorse, the confidence of my friends, the respect of my family, the trust in a happy future, the appreciation of the beauties of nature, knowing what it is all about. I’m also dreaming more and starting new projects everywhere," he captioned a photo of him with Kaplan.
"Traveling has gotten a new meaning. I’ve doubled my real estate business in just this fairly short time. I’m present and more efficient, yet go slower through each day. In many ways I’ve become more myself, by peeling back the unnecessary and quieting the noise. I often think of how I’ve reconnected with the boy I was a long time ago. I can’t explain it any other way but it’s the best feeling and I’m eternally grateful for the help I’ve received to get here because I would not have been able to do it by myself. ❤️"
Eklund and Kaplan got married in 2013 and welcomed their twins four years ago. The couple relocated from New York City to Los Angeles in 2020. Eklund announced that he is leaving the show after the ninth season, which premiered in May 2021.
