Best known as the whip-slinging archaeologist Indiana Jones and smuggler Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise, the “Blade Runner” star is heading over to another Disney property in the upcoming Marvel movie, “Captain America: New World Order.”
Harrison Ford Trades Star Wars For Marvel In Upcoming ‘Captain America: New World Order’

Although the Oscar-nominated actor turned 80 in July, he is showing no signs of slowing down. On Monday, October 17, Deadline reported that “The Fugitive” actor will be taking over the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross beginning with “Captain America: New World Order,” which takes place in Phase 5 of the Marvel franchise.
General Ross was first introduced in the Marvel comics in 1962. He leads a team of anti-heroes known collectively as the Thunderbolts. Academy Award-winning actor William Hurt originated the role in the film franchise, starting with 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” through 2021’s “Black Widow.” Sadly, he passed away in March 2022 at the age of 71.
“Captain America: New World Order” sees Anthony Mackie reprise his role as Sam Wilson, who assumed the Captain America mantle in the Disney+ live-action series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

The film also stars Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, and Carl Lumbly. Julius Onah is slated to direct, with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” creator Malcolm Spellman writing the script along with the show’s staff writer, Dalan Musson.
The upcoming Marvel movie, produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, is currently scheduled for release on May 3, 2024. The “Captain America” feature is the fourth film set for Phase 5, with a standalone “Thunderbolts” film to follow shortly after.
Although Ford has no plans to retire from acting, he will be hanging up his whip in the still-untitled fifth film in the “Indiana Jones” franchise, which is scheduled to hit theaters next June after years of delays.
Harrison Ford Says He’s Done Playing Indiana Jones During D23 Expo

In September, the D23 Expo gave excited fans a first look at the still-untitled “Indiana Jones 5.” Footage from the trailer was shown to audiences gathered in the packed convention center in Anaheim, California, but has yet to make its way online.
Director James Mangold, Harrison Ford, costar Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy were all present to give fans a first look at the final send-off of the beloved character.
Ford first originated the role with “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981. He reprised his role again in 1984’s “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” He teamed up with Sean Connery in 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” before delivering the controversial “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in 2008.
“I’m very proud to say that this one is fantastic, and this is one of the reasons,” he said as he pointed to Waller-Bridge, who is rumored to take over the franchise after Ford retires. The “Fleabag” creator, 37, said that she had “the time of [her] life” making the film.
“Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they’re also about heart, and I’m really, really happy that we have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your a–,” Ford continued.

The “What Lies Beneath” actor also confirmed his retirement, saying, “This is it,” before joking, “I will not fall down for you again.”
Director James Mangold also had nothing but positive things to say about the film, telling the audience, “I was surrounded by tremendous talent and support, and such goodwill and advice and found myself living out a kind of fantasy from when I was in high school, wondering what it would be like to direct one of these pictures, and to honor what they mean to you and me.”
The still-untitled “Indiana Jones 5” is scheduled to make its theatrical debut on June 30, 2023.
