Taylor Swift: L.A. 'Lover Fest' Stadium Unfinished, Laborer Contracts COVID-19

Well this is a ~~love story~~ plot twist if we've ever heard one!

SOME CONTEXT:Taylor Swift is embarking on a venture like never before. Ten years ago, she was playing 4-5 arena concerts per week. Three years ago, she performed a stadium show or two on the weekend. Now, she's putting together her own festivals, and Americans have the option of choosing between between a wide variety of two, mid-summer, multi-day events: "Lover Fest East" in Los Angeles, or "Lover Fest West" in Boston.

But there's one problem.

One of the stadiums isn't finished yet. And an ironworker for said stadium has contracted COVID-19.

"Turner AECOM Hunt, the joint venture overseeing the construction of SoFi Stadium, acknowledged Sunday that an ironworker at the site tested positive for COVID-19," Sports Illustrated said on Sunday.

Swift's "Lover Fest" is set to be the Los Angeles venue's grand opening event in late July - so really, make that two problems.

Turner AECOM assured in their own statement that the laborer "was assigned to an isolated, material pre-assembly area outside the building," and that the construction project will continue as planned.

S.I. additionally stated that "Turner AECOM Hunt has increased the number of toilet facilities and wash stations around the site and installed full-time monitors to ensure those sanitation areas remain 'clean, operational, and stocks' in accordance with L.A. County Department of Health and Center for Disease Control guidelines."

With a price tag of $5 billion, SoFi Stadium is said to be the most expensive project in NFL history. And while Swift is no stranger to stadiums - playing the first five shows of her 2018 reputation tour in similarly-sized SoCal spots - there is one local L.A. landmark she will likely never forget.

On the first of a five-night STAPLES Center run, Taylor Swift received a banner for having the most sold out performances of anyone in the arena's history. The impressive number of shows garnering the presentation was 16, but even more impressive was the person doing the presenting: Kobe Bryant. The basketball and pop star shared a very special relationship that began long before his meeting of her onstage during 2015's 1989 tour.

"My heart is in pieces hearing the news of this unimaginable tragedy," Swift tweeted just hours after Bryant's death was confirmed. "I can’t fathom what the families are going through. Kobe meant so much to me and to us all."

Besides a few outlets billing the impending summer events as "Taylor Swift and Friends," little-to-no information has been given about who these friends might be - then again she's known for her surprises, and her surprises never disappoint. She also stated that its the concept was specifically inspired by the slated season.

"For me, the Lover album is open fields and sunsets and SUMMER," a September social media statement read. "I want to celebrate the album and perform it live with you in a way that feels authentic to the music. I want to go to some places I haven’t been, and play festivals for the first time in ages...and where we didn’t have festivals, we made some."

In spite of the myriad of major sporting and entertainment events being canned due to the coronavirus pandemic (most recently, that of the Olympics) it seems that Swift's "Lover Fest" is still a go - for now.
