R. Kelly is pleading to be let out of prison saying he fears for his safety inside due to Coronavirus, despite him facing extremely serious charges.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the disgraced singer is asking the judge to let him out on bond, which has been previously denied numerous times.
His argument this time focuses on the Coronavirus outbreak. He says while at Chicago MCC, he is surrounded by the most-at-risk population for contracting Covid 19.
Kelly says, “Those now detained cannot be protected from the coming jail epidemic, and if infected will without question suffer from inferior health care.”
His lawyer says if Kelly is released he would live in a large apartment with his girlfriend, Joycelyn Savage. The singer continues to complain arguing, “The health risk to Mr. Kelly, because of his age and existing health issues, especially considering the conditions at the MCC, necessitates his release on bail. They are predicting that millions could die, in this country alone. Requiring people to reside in a custodial jail setting is tantamount to making them drink poison.”
A judge has yet to rule.
As The Blast previously reported, since being locked up Kelly has complained nonstop about a variety of issues.
The alleged child sex predator whined about not having “meaningful interaction with other humans”, no time outside getting sunlight and said he wasn’t allowed to buy certain snacks and candy. Kelly felt he deserved a television, extra shower access and more time on phone calls.
Prosecutors have trashed his complaints accusing him of violating prison rules. They claim he refused to take a cellmate at one point, denied he was restricted from going outside and said he bought a Snickers in prison.
Kelly has made numerous attempts to get out of prison on bond. He has offered to avoid contact with underage women, wear an ankle monitoring device and have no contact with alleged victims. The judges presiding over his two separate criminal cases have been unpersuaded.
Before filing his recent motion, Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, has been talking to anyone who will listen about the singer’s prison conditions and Coronavirus fears.
He spoke to Vulture saying Kelly is practicing “social distancing” and safety precautions while locked up at MCC Chicago.
He added, “I think it’s fair to say that he’s trying to follow the same advice as the rest of us, and be smart, and you know, stay away from others. He’s practicing whatever level of social distancing you can practice in jail.”
Greenberg claims Kelly is “concerned because he’s in probably the worst possible situation, in terms of social distancing, that you could be in.”
