Ginuwine nearly drowned while filming Magic With The Stars this week. His partner, Criss Angel’s stunt went horribly wrong.
Ginuwine Passed Out On Set
The “Differences” singer was geared up with all the right equipment before stepping into a tank of water where he was meant to hold his breath while the magician performed a trick. The DailyMail shared that an undisclosed source saw it go down.
The singer bashed on the glass, his signal for distress, and the paramedics were called to the scene. Ginuwine, whose real name is Elgin Baylor Lumpkin was initially conscious when he got out of the tank, breathing heavily, but awake.
While the on-set paramedics were trying to calm him down, that is when he passed out.
Ginuwine Had To Be Carried Away
The 51-year-old was then carried away to another side of the stage to be looked at further. “It all happened so fast, it was like he got tapped out in a fight,” claims the source to DailyMail. The show is hosted by comedian Eddie Griffith. It also features Loni Love and magician Lance Burton as judges.
The premise of the show is celebrities training with Criss Angel to create exciting, out of this world, magic tricks. This one with Ginuwine, however, doesn't seem to be looking too spectacular yet. In fact, it’s looking downright scary.
Ginuwine Is Working Through A Fear
According to the source, the “Pony” singer is on the show for two reasons; to show off mind-blowing stunts and face his fears. “In the show, he was trying to overcome his fear of being under water as he couldn’t hold his breath for longer than 15 seconds before trying the stunt out.”
The source went on to share that Ginuwine made a recovery soon after the incident that same day and appeared fine as the day continued. They also shared that the show must go on.
“Although he failed in rehearsals, he still went ahead with the stunt on the show and everyone was in tears.”
‘Magic With The Stars’ Honors Criss Angel
The show, which is set to run on CW will celebrate Criss Angel and his success as a magician on multi-platforms. The show will also feature other celebrities like Donny Osmond, Frankie Muniz, Brec Bassinger, Debbie Gibson, Matt Walsh, Flavor Flav, Randy Couture, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.
Funny enough, Frankie Muniz posted a video of himself online a few years ago of him grinding and dancing to Ginuwine’s most notable hit “Pony”. Now, they are working together. The actor should re-post the video to cheer his buddy up after a hard day on the set.
Magic With The Stars premieres on October 22.
