Sydney Sweeney Lands Role In ‘Barbarella’

According to Deadline, Sweeney has been tapped to star in Sony Pictures’ upcoming remake of the classic film, “Barbarella.” Alongside her feature, the “Euphoria” star will also take up a role behind the scene as an exec producer for the project.
The film is said to be based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book series that was turned into a 1968 movie starring Fonda. Per the publication, a source shared that the project is still in the pre-production phase, and the showrunners have not yet hired writers, a director, or other vital personnel to join the team.
Additionally, Sony has not yet revealed the list of stars who will appear with Sweeney, and there is no word on whether auditions have been held for the available roles. The undertaking is Sweeney’s most recent achievement after a successful 2022. She received several award nominations, including an Emmy nod for her roles in “The White Lotus” and “Euphoria.”

In the meantime, it’s unclear how the showrunners plan to improve on the flaws of the original, which was not initially successful at the box office when it debuted in the nineties.
At the time, Fonda played the character of a 41st-century astronaut assigned a mission to find and stop the activities of the evil genius scientist Durand Durand and his Positronic Ray, which threatened to destroy the earth and the galaxy at large. Also starring in the film were John Phillip Law and Anita Pallenberg.
The movie drew criticism for its lackluster plot and poor writing, although its visual effects were generally well-liked. However, “Barbarella” has developed a cult following over time, and throughout the years, several sequels, remakes, and other adaptations have been considered but have not yet been formally realized.
What Fans Expect From The New Remake Starring Sydney Sweeney

Now that the showrunners boast of 55 years’ worth of hindsight, fans expect more in-depth and captivating work on the project. They will also be interested in seeing a new narrative that retains many old details while interwoven with unique concepts, cinematography, and other technological advances.
Additionally, thanks to Sweeney’s early confirmation of her involvement in its production, the new “Barbarella” film gains from having a dedicated performer leading the effort to bring the character back to the big screen.
Fans will also see the star team up with Sony on two other upcoming projects, one of which is the Marvel film “Madame Web,” which features Dakota Johnson. She will also star in another upcoming project dubbed “The Registration” and feature alongside Paul Walter Hauser, Simon Rex, and Halsey in “National Anthem.”
