Actor Orlando Bloom has opened up about a bizarre accident he experienced at the age of 19.

The actor, who is well-known for his roles in the "Lord of the Rings" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series, revealed that after falling from a rooftop terrace, he was told he would never walk again.

Bloom would subsequently leave the hospital using crutches but spent the following months going through a difficult and exhausting rehab process that had a negative impact on his mental health.

The actor urged his followers to support those who are struggling with mental health problems and let them know that things can still get better.

The Doctor Said Orlando Bloom Might Never Walk Again

In honor of World Mental Health Day, which was marked on October 10, the actor took to Instagram to reflect on a tragic injury he suffered during his last year as a teenager. Bloom, at the time, fell several floors from a window while climbing up a rooftop terrace with friends due to the drainpipe he was scaling collapsing.

While the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star luckily survived the plummet, the aftermath was not exactly favorable. He had to reconcile himself with the thought that he might never walk again due to the impact of the injury.

"When I was in the hospital, I was told for the first four days that I may never walk again," the "Lord of the Rings" alum stated, per E! "That was really the beginning of what was a long and painful journey for me into recognizing and understanding some of the patterns that had been in my life that led to me having numerous accidents."

'A Dark Time'

Fortunately for Bloom, the earlier prognosis did not hold true, as he was able to leave the hospital with the aid of crutches in almost two weeks. However, the next few months of his life were quite harrowing and took a major toll on him physically and mentally.

"I would say the months after the fall were quite a dark time," he added. "As somebody who's sort of always been very active in my life, it felt restrictive all of a sudden, and I was in a lot of pain."

During the recovery process, the actor had to do a lot of self-reflection, which helped him marshal out the kind of life he wanted to live.

"I would say that for me, the injury created time and space for me to look at my life, recognize what was good and great in my life," the UNICEF Goodwill ambassador said. "And the fact that I had this recovery and then build that into the way I live my life."

Orlando Bloom Shares Advice On Mental Health

Elsewhere in the clip, the actor discussed a significant mental health problem— the absence of any obvious symptoms. He continued by saying that such moments may be a turning point toward something positive. "Mental health is particularly challenging because it's unseen, "Bloom shared. "There is always an opportunity for you to transform the pain, whether it be physical or mental, into the good, great fortune of your life."

The actor also told his listeners that a lot could be done to assist those suffering from mental health problems. He stated that basic check-ins could be a method for people to open up when things are tough.

"It's so important to reach out to people, to talk to people, to find somebody," the actor added. "In order to create the possibility for communication that leads to transformation and change."
