In light of social distancing and self-isolation, Miley Cyrus has started a new Instagram series called "Bright Minded: Live with Miley". Shortly after starting the series, Cyrus posted an Instagram video explaining the process and inspiration behind "Bright Minded". She captioned the video with, "#BrightMinded #LiveWithMiley gets a little more official each day! What’s a talk show without a custom mug thooooooo?!?!?! On Friday, Cyrus had friend, Hailey Baldwin, on the show as a guest. One topic that come up between the ladies was that of religion and spirituality. While Baldwin is vocal about her Christian beliefs, as is her husband, Justin Bieber, Cyrus explained that she had issues with certain judgments found in the religion. Specifically, Cyrus said that she stopped going to church after noticing that friends who identified as gay or fluid were turned away. As she became more of herself and her own person, Cyrus explained that she had a hard time forming a relationship with "God".

"I had a hard time finding a relationship with God that worked for me as an adult,” Cyrus explained. “I think … I’m allowed to decide what my relationship is with spirituality as an adult that doesn’t have to be aligned with the way that it was when I was brought up...I had some gay friends in school. That is the reason why I left my church is that they weren’t being accepted. They were being sent to conversion therapies. I had a hard time with me finding my sexuality too."

In regards to her own sexuality, Cyrus came out as "pansexual" in 2016. During an interview with "Variety", Cyrus said, "I had some gay friends in school. That is the reason why I left my church is that they weren’t being accepted,” she said, adding, “They were being sent to conversion therapies. I had a hard time with me finding my sexuality too."

During the interview with Baldwin, Cyrus also took a moment to explain what would allow her to feel more comfortable in exploring spirituality and her personal relationship with "God".

"So I think now you telling me that I’m allowed to redesign my relationship with God as an adult and make it how it feels most accepting to me would make me feel so less turned off by spirituality," she said.

Baldwin responded to Miley's thoughts by explaining, "I think there’s a difference between being raised in the church and being an adult and having your own relationship with God and Jesus and spirituality because what my relationship was with faith getting raised that way is completely different than me in my own journey as an adult."
