The pressure has been on for the executives to change up leadership after the current leadership allegedly hid complaints of sexual assaults by a woman.

She accused eight players of the Canadian Hockey League and members of the 2018 world juniors team of sexually assaulting her after a Hockey Canada gala in 2018.

The case was settled in May 2022 but to many people’s disgust, some of the accusers are still playing in the league. The case made headlines for obvious reasons.

The case was particularly heinous because the bully players allegedly forced the victim to record a video after the assault saying she wanted it.

“Are you record me?” she asks the players when she sees phone pointing at her. “OK fine. It was all consensual. You’re so paranoid, shit. I enjoyed it, it was fine. It was all consensual. I’m so sober so I can’t do this now,” she say, allegedly slurring through the video.

The accuser even broke her silence and spoke in public. I never wanted to draw attention to that,” she said in an interview with The Globe and Mail. “I just wanted consequences for actions and some accountability.”

Canadians are known for being polite and kind but when you push their buttons or worse, mess with their beloved sport Hockey, all manners go out the door! PM of Canada Justin Trudeau said the lack of accountability “boggles his mind” the public figure made a direct and shocking statement against Hockey Canada.

“There needs to be wholesale change, they need to do it, they need to realize that if we have to create an organization — get rid of Hockey Canada — and create an organization called Canada Hockey instead, people will look at doing that,” he said in Ottawa this week.

“There is a lack of understanding that they have lost the confidence of Canadians. The sooner they get to that, the better it will be for everyone,” he demands.

Hockey Canada Interim board chair Andrea Skinner defended the company in a video pointing out their “excellent reputation” and essentially ignoring that this horrible act went down. Not only are Canadian’s not with the BS response from Hockey Canada but some of their big-name companies are bowing out of supporting the organization. So far, five heavy hitters have backed away.

Hockey Quebec said see ya later. Tim Hortons wants no parts, they released a statement reiterating what they said in June after the case was settled. Scotiabank quickly followed also pointing to an open letter they released in June as well.

"In our open letter in June, we publicly called on Hockey Canada to hold the game to a higher standard and we are disappointed with the lack of progress to date.”

Canadian Tire wants to work with organizations that “better align” with their values.

"In our view, Hockey Canada continues to resist meaningful change and we can no longer confidently move forward together.  CTC is proud of our commitment to sport and will continue to invest in our beloved national game by re-directing support to hockey-related organizations that better align with our values. “

The company even doubled down and shared that some of their money will now be going to The Respect Group, “which is focused on preventing bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination.”

Telus one of the big three phone companies in Canada also wants out and are "deeply disheartened” by the way Hockey Canada is handling this whole ordeal.

This story is far from over.
