With the spread of the novel coronavirus and WHO recently upgrading the disease to pandemic status, the world has leapt to a panic. As the globe rushes to contain the spread of coronavirus, communities are taking extra measures like social distancing and self-quarantining.
A number of people are also rushing to markets to stock up in an act of panic shopping, leaving many who are in need of basic necessities for their home without things like hand sanitizer, water and toilet paper.
Over the weekend, Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to remind folks that it’s important to be considerate, maintain an air of compassion and, most importantly, refrain from hoarding supplies from those who are also in need.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer tweeted, “Be thoughtful. Respectful. Compassionate. HUMAN. while preparing for social distancing…. NO ONE needs every soup in the store. The more we hoard the more expensive and sparse necessities will become, leaving many without essentials. This is a great time to practice restraint.”

Restraint, the keyword that people like this gentleman desperately need to revisit. She continued, “It’s incredibly difficult to make smart decisions while panicking but think twice before following the fear and being inconsiderate. There is enough to go around if we take care of one another. This is a beautiful time to LEAD.”
Cyrus is continuing to do her part by using her big platform to empower fans with information on preventative measures to combat COVID-19. She also recently shared a hand-washing meme.

The caption read, “Wash your damn hands,” and was hashtagged with the words “WashYourLyrics”. The viral meme has had many iterations over the past week. While Cyrus shared one featuring her own lyrics from her hit song “The Climb”, another one includes the lyrics of the popular Sisqo song “The Thong Song”.
The idea is to encourage proper hand-washing techniques by having people wash their hands for at least 20 seconds while singing these songs either aloud or in their heads. Public health officials have stated consistent hand-washing can go far as a preventative measure.
The singer is not the only celeb to use her platform for good during this difficult time. “You Need to Calm Down” singer Taylor Swift shared her own message to her fans over the weekend that consisted of encouraging them to stay home.
“This is the time to cancel plans, actually truly isolate as much as you can and don’t assume that because you don’t feel sick that you aren’t possibly passing something on to someone elderly or vulnerable to this,” Swift shared on an Instagram post.
She added, “It’s a really scary time, but we need to make sacrifices right now.”
Ariana Grande is another pop singer that took to her platform to put fans on game about the seriousness of the pandemic. She stated, “These are the times when the world should rely on their governments to support the plan for all citizens to stay at home and lessen the threat of infection and the spread of the virus. Like your hip hop yoga class can f**king wait I promise.”
