Orlando Bloom Explains That He Was 6 Months Celibate And Porn-Free Before Dating Katy Perry

Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry recently announced that they were expecting their first child together (the second for Bloom, who shares a son with ex Miranda Kerr), and while their Japanese wedding is currently on hold given coronavirus concerns, things are going full speed ahead for the happy couple.

Bloom recently sat down with The Times to talk about his relationship and he opened up about his sex life pre-Perry and he explained that he was celibate for six month's before he met the pop star.

"[I] wasn't happy. [My friend] Laird [Hamilton] said, 'If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out.' It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, 'Who am I going to meet?' I was suddenly like, 'Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends.'"

While Bloomoriginally planned to go three months celibate, he ended up going six and learning a lot about himself in the process.

"I was going to do three months, but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself."

Not only that, but Bloom went completely cold turkey on any kind of sexual contact, including self-pleasure and pornography.

"Completely nothing. It was insane. I don't think it's healthy. I don't think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there."

This process did a lot to change Bloom's relationship with pornography, explaining that "porn is super-disruptive to your sex life, to your libido."

"They’ve done the studies, they can’t find any kids who don’t watch it. When you watch multiple people at multiple times in one evening, how is your actual real-life partner going to match up? It’s just so destructive."

Bloom met Perry at a 2016 Golden Globes party, and after they "hung out and connected," his vow of celibacy was at an end.

Bloom gushed about his fiancée in the interview, saying:

"She's very surprising. She's witty and smart and intelligent. She's charismatic, but she's direct, too, and this dynamic was intriguing to me."

Before revealing that they were expecting, Bloom said this about Perry in February:

"I really want to enjoy family and friends, my beautiful son, and have more kids. I want to make sure when I embark on that, it’s with my heart full and very clear about the reality of what that means, as opposed to some romantic idea of what it means to be in a relationship."
