Katy Perry is gearing up for motherhood following last week’s announcement that the “Roar” singer is expecting her first child with actor Orlando Bloom.
The couple, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019, was said to have been ecstatic over the news of their bundle of joy, and now Katy is opening up on why she took her time before making the move to settle down with her fiancé.
The soon-to-be mother-of-one, who had been in Australia this past week to headline the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup Final in Melbourne, still had time on her hands for a little promotional tour down under.

As fans would already be aware, Katy dropped her latest single “Never Worn White” on March 4 with an accompanying music video revealing her surprise pregnancy. And during a live session on her Instagram, Katy later confirmed that she was indeed expecting a baby but wouldn’t disclose her due date.
While in Australia, the “Thinking Of You” songstress sat down for a radio interview with Australia’s Fifi, Fev & Byron, where she opened up about her decision to take her time when it came to starting a family, adding that she was in no rush to get pregnant by any means.

“I’m excited about that and like I said, I have two nieces and one nephew that I’m obsessed with,” Katy gushed before going on to share why she couldn’t have seen herself having a baby a few years ago.
“I think, definitely, everything’s changing. I wasn’t ready a couple years ago, and I did the work to get ready and now I’m really ready. I see a baby and I’m like [makes gaga face]. It’s just time for me and it’s the right time.”

While Katy still has a while to go before she’s due to pop, the "Part Of Me" chart-topper gushed that she has already picked out a name for her offspring.
“Yeah, of course. I’ve strategized a record before, and my life and my career. There’s been thoughs in some of these things,” Katy said, but she failed to share any of the names that are currently in the running of being passed over to her baby.
Katy also shed light on whether or not she’s given her fiancé any say in picking out a name for their baby, to which she joked: “We make him think he does. That’s how you do it.”

“No, of course, he does! He’s incredible. That’s why we’re on this journey.”
Katy and Orlando first met at the Weinstein Company/Netflix Golden Globes after-party in January 2016 and immediately hit it off.
And though they reportedly called it quits just ten months into their relationship, sources at the time claimed that the duo had remained friendly with one another, which ultimately led them to reconcile by mid-2018.
