Once upon a time, Matthew McConaughey was not considered to be a very good or serious actor. He starred in romcoms like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Fool's Gold, The Wedding Planner and Failure to Launch. Then, he starred in the 2013 movie, Dallas Buyers Club and then later, in Gold. From then on, there has been no stopping this versatile actor, who can do justice to just about any role. While we know his professional achievements well, here's a little lowdown on his personal front, meaning family.

Matthew McConaughey has been married to Brazilian model and designer Camila Alves since 2012, but they began dating in 2006. However, their first meeting isn't your typical romantic one, rather an awkward one. According to Oprah Magazine, they met at a bar, and at the time McConaughey was sporting a long beard, was wrapped up and had a rasta hat on top. Not only did Alves not realize who he was, she was not interested in him at the time.

Camila Alves turned 38 on January 28, 2020 while
Matthew McConaughey celebrated his 50th birthday on November 4 in 2019, so there's a 12-year age-gap between the two. While this may sound like a lot, they are a Hollywood couple, and 12 years is almost sedate. They started dating in 2006, got engaged on Christmas in 2011 and finally had a private wedding ceremony in 2012. So that makes them a longtime, devoted-to-each-other couple, which is a definite rarity in Hollywood.

Levi Alves McConaughey, Vida Alves McConaughey, and Livingston Alves McConaughey, aged 11, 10 and seven make up the beautiful McConaughey-Alves brood. In fact, Levi and Vida witnessed their parent's wedding, considering they were the ring bearers, and adorably aged four and two at the time. So marriage is something McConaughey and Alves evolved into and celebrated as a declaration of their love for each other and for their adorable family. As parents, they have the same moral compass, and that makes for a close and healthy family.

The one reason that McConaughey and Alves have been able to make a successful go of it in a profession where love fades fast, is because they always make time for each other. They do stuff together as a family, but also as a couple, even if it is about cooking a meal together. And if Alves needs to forget the mother in her, they check into a nearby hotel for the night, so that she gets some much needed TLC, and they get a bit frisky without the fear of the kids walking in.
