Dr. Oz and Dr. Drew, now that’s the dream team we all want on top of this Coronavirus pandemic. When being interviewed on the street by TMZ, both of the Doctors went into detail as to why this virus shouldn’t be causing such internal panic. But, although people were happy to have well versed Doctors ensuring them that this isn’t something to lose our heads over, they found ways to hit these two with their own hypocrisies. Blaming the media for the over exaggeration across the country does make slight sense, at the same time both Doctors benefit from those same things they were calling the media out for.
Breaking down Dr. Drew and his entire reality show genesis, highlights the fact that he hasn’t been absolved of guilt or criticism. His wholesome image does present to be pretty genuine. Although his manner of making money can come off as conflicting. When reality t.v. was becoming the beast it is right now, Dr. Drew helped it to burst. His show called “Celebrity Rehab” was a major hit across America. It was both heart piercing and humbling to see these huge public figures be brought down to Earth.
Through his blunt but also caring nature he did his best to help these talented individuals reconcile their demons. Some became success stories and others didn’t. Dr. Drew should not be burdened by another persons downfalls, especially because of how diligently he worked to help his patients. His show also made it easier for all of us to speak about mental health and abuse. So, admittedly Dr. Drew is a great guy. Still, “Celebrity Rehab” was a production at the end of the day, and making money off other peoples misery no matter how tirelessly you’ve tried to benefit their lives isn’t that easy to digest.
As for Dr. Oz he seems less involved with exploitation and more so focused on maneuvering around that thin line of showing people that others are suffering, but also recognizing that some issues don’t need to be placed on tv for millions to judge. It’s a hard place to be in. Dr. Phil is another medical professional who receives flak for how he handles mentally ill people on air. Not to mention his reputation for making people who shouldn’t be famous, well known. Cough, cough, Bhad Bhabie.
So, Doctors we get what you’re trying to say and we respect it. But check yourself when it comes to slamming the media that you so exponentially benefit from. Without the media shows like Dr. Drew’s and Dr. Oz’s wouldn’t be as celebrated nor kept up with. All celebrities in fact need the TMZ’s, and Perez Hiltons of the world like chicken needs seasoning. Aside from that the Doctors do make fascinating points and have assured a lot of the public just by answering a few questions that life will resume as it once was pre Coronavirus.
