Kesha is fighting the $374,000 judgment she was ordered to pay music producer Dr. Luke.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Kesha has filed an appeal of the recent court decision in favor of Dr. Luke. She is asking the higher court to look at the case and reverse the lower court’s order.
Back in 2014, Kesha sued Dr. Luke accusing him of infliction of emotional distress, gender-based hate crimes and discrimination. She accuses her long-time producer of being “sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally” abusive to her over the years.
The singer demanded to be let out of her contract with Dr. Luke. During the battle, Kesha was supported by Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Avril Lavigne and Lady Gaga, who spoke about their disdain for the producer.
Gaga gave powerful testimony during her deposition.
Dr. Luke filed his own lawsuit against Kesha accusing her of defaming him in a series of tweets sent to Lady Gaga. In the messages, Kesha said Luke raped singer Katy Perry, which he denied was true. Katy Perry was questioned under oath about the claim and denied ever being sexually assaulted by Luke.
Kesha suffered a series of setbacks in her lawsuit with the claims being dismissed.
Last month, the judge came back with a decision in Dr. Luke’s case and sided with the producer. He found that Kesha did defame the producer in the text conversations with Lady Gaga. He found that Kesha owed Luke a total of $374,000 in late royalty fees.
In newly filed court documents, Kesha says she seeks a “reversal of the Order granting in part Plaintiffs’ Motion for partial summary judgment because Plaintiffs are not entitled to judgment as a matter of law (i) that Kesha is liable for allegedly defamatory statements. Made by Mark Geragos and Sunshine Sachs, (ii) that Kesha made a false statement to Lady Gaga that constitutes a defamatory publication per se.”
Kesha is not backing down and ready to continue the battle against Dr. Luke.
