In a surprising turn of events, Peter Weber‘s season of The Bachelor ended with his engagement to Hannah Ann Sluss crashing and burning dramatically and Weber reuniting with runner up Madison Prewett, who had previously dropped out of the competition. After Peter and Hannah Ann broke up, Madison showed up at Peter’s home, determined to give things another try. Peter told Madison:
“Look, I made a million and one mistakes, but I know that I fell in love with you. And I know I messed up and I messed up and I messed up, and I’m so sorry for that. But I haven’t just, like, fallen out of love with you. And obviously we hurt both of each other like crazy. And obviously you’re here right now for a reason.”
The couple was still together by the time the After The Final Rose special aired, and that’s when the drama really began.
Peter’s mother, Barbra Weber showed up at the After The Final Rose show ready to express her frustration and her dislike of Madison. Apparently, she was a bigger fan of Hannah Ann. She explained:
“You know, the show last night, it didn’t show everything. And I’ve gotten a lot of love, let me say, on my DMs. But I will say, when I went for Hannah Ann, it was because she was the one who embraced me with love,” the mother-of-two reasoned. “She was so organic, she was just so loving towards me. And I just loved her. The next day, we met Madison, and it started out rocky… rocky road.”
Barb’s first impression of Madison wasn’t great, after Madi debated whether or not she wanted to meet Peter’s family and made them wait for “three hours.”
“We had just come across the country—excuse me, across the world—and we were exhausted, we were just getting used to the time there, and we had to wait three hours, and when she did come in, the whole family… we didn’t get an apology from her.”
She also couldn’t forgive Madison for initially turning down Peter’s proposal, something that Hannah Ann didn’t do.
“How do you expect a mother who loves her son with all of her heart to take that? I couldn’t … my whole family, my son Jack, my husband, Peter, and myself, you didn’t see that. And as a mother, that, no, wasn’t what we were expecting, and therefore, when I said that I wanted Hannah Ann so badly, because I knew we just clicked right away. Unfortunately, we did not have that connection with Madison.”
Madison told Barb that she has “love and respect for Peter” and therefore has “love and respect for Peter’s family,” saying that she “will never say a negative word about anyone or anything.” Barb wasn’t buying it. She told Chris Harrison:
“Chris, he’s going to have to fail to succeed. That’s it. All his friends, all his family, everyone that knows him knows that it’s not going to work. So we’ve been trying to help them. Would we want it to work? Yes.”
Peter eventually spoke up on Madison‘s behalf, saying to his mother “I am telling you that I love Madison and that should be enough.”
It seems like Madison and Peter have an uphill fight ahead of them. Are they doomed from the start?
