Amber Portwood was arrested last summer for an alleged assault on her then-boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, and during a new interview, the 29-year-old Teen Mom OG star is opening up about the ordeal, as well as the weight loss she sustained after being thrown behind bars.
“I got into a really, really dark period for a couple of months,” Portwood told Us Weekly in the latest issue of their magazine. “I lost about 35 pounds in less than three months. My hair was falling out."

"When I say I went into shock, I literally, my body went in shock. I didn’t sleep for almost two weeks. I had to get out of that state of mind,” Portwood recalled.
Portwood was arrested in July 2019 after allegedly attacking her now-ex-boyfriend, Glennon, who was holding their son James, now 22-months-old.
“It was definitely a deep depression that I went through,” Portwood continued. “Through prison and everything I’ve been through, it was one of the worst times of my life, and when you go through something like that, you have to learn from your mistakes.”

In a sneak peek at the new season of Teen Mom OG, Portwood is seen having an emotional conversation about her troubles with her ex-fiance, Gary Shirley, who is also the father of her 11-year-old daughter, Leah Shirley.
“The No. 1 regret that I have is that I did not walk out of the house that night. Now I look back and I’m so ashamed because all I keep thinking about is, ‘Amber, you should have walked out of the house,'” Portwood admitted.

Portwood went on to cite her ongoing struggles with her mental health.
“There are limits to somebody with mental health disorders. There’s only so much somebody like me can handle and people like me will understand that. … I just have a lot of guilt of not being aware of myself more than I should have,” she admitted.
While it is unclear how much Glennon will be seen on Teen Mom OG, producers were seen placing a call to him in the trailer for the new episodes in hopes of hearing his side of the story.

After receiving a call from Teen Mom OG producers, Glennon opened up about the way he was feeling after Portwood's alleged attack and arrest.
“It’s giving me anxiety, to be honest with you,” he explained. “It’s hard to go to sleep. It’s a total mess. It’s completely spiraled out of control, I feel like, and it’s really frustrating.”
Portwood and Glennon began dating in 2017 after meeting on the set of WEtv's Marriage Boot Camp, where he was working behind the scenes.
Teen Mom OG returns to MTV on Tuesday, March 17, at 8 p.m.
